he didn't love it but I'm leaning towards getting it over the GLB b/c I really don't need all that extra space since my husband got an audi Q5... I think the GLA will be sufficient enough for me & my 13 year old
My local dealer has a silver one coming in :-)

I see. Since this is a GLB thread, I figured I should share this as well (turns out he made a video of the GLB too):

No problem at all, the previous gen GLA was also categorized as a crossover or hatchback by literally everyone except Mercedes themselves. The current gen GLA is much more like an SUV and everyone agrees and Mercedes too again marketed it as an SUV.

Interesting! The GLA looks more like a crossover to me since it’s so short in length & not that high which is why it may be the perfect size for me coming out of a Lexus IS 250...

Hmmm, oh ya now that you mentioned it and reading back to your original post. Since you came from a sedan, may I ask due to curiosity sake, why didn't you consider a MB sedan instead?
Edit: nevermind I forgot you talked about it in post #7, you wanted something bigger and different. I wished they had A-Class Hatch in USA then you could had considered that as well although I remember seeing a post somewhere that they are testing one with US MFR plates so it might be there soon.

Oh interesting! So how is that different from the A sedan & GLA do u know? Smaller? It’s cute. Yeah i do love the c class sedan but i feel like it’s similar to my Lexus & this puts me up a little higher without being in a huge suv if that makes sense?

Yup I fully understand you and yes it does make sense. Since you mentioned the C-Class, I am not sure if you want to wait for the C-Class All-Terrain (not sure if it will come to the USA that is, but if it does, it would be quite a bit of a wait)

Are you in a rush to get a vehicle or can you tell me how long are you willing to wait. That being said, I think based on what you told me so far, GLA makes the most sense for your needs.

The A-Class hatch has a liftgate instead of a trunk so you can store more items than the regular A-Sedan, it is still smaller than the GLA. You aren't really gaining much headroom for the A-hatch compared to the A-sedan though, less than an inch gain. So GLA makes more sense if headroom is important.

Here are some specs if you are interested: GLA rear headroom = 38.1 inch, A-Sedan rear headroom = 37.2 inch, A-Hatch rear headroom = 37.7 inch, GLB 2nd row headroom = 39.3 inch

C63S
Main reason for the GLB is family duties, I don't think there is a nicer looking 7 seater out there that isn't the size of a house. If you don't need 7 seats, get the GLC and if you want something smaller get a GLA. If you can handle big cars, then there is a behemoth with your name on it

I sold my C63s when child no4 came along, so the decision was easy for me, otherwise I'd have stuck with the estate version I had. Failing that, a GLC63 would have been the SUV of choice. Wife can't handle anything bigger.

I don't personally like SUVs but if I have to choose, it would be GLB too because it is such a nice design, the boxy appearance is nice, it sort of look like the ML.
As for OP, reason I suggested to go with GLA over GLB is because OP wanted a taller vehicle than the IS 250 but not too big.
Edit: op, not sure if you want to stick with Lexus but what do you think of the UX as well? Did you look at the Q3 and the X1 (or X2)?

thx so helpful! Yes the A class hatch sounds too small for me. This C class all terrain looks interesting but sounds like a long wait. so is it basically like a C sedan gla version? My lexus is 15 years old but only has 76,000 miles & no issues so I guess I"m not in a major rush but now that I"m in car shopping mode, it does seem exciting to finally get a new car LOL tho I will honestly really miss my lexus..not only is navigation standard but so were the heating & cooling seats! I love my cooling seats & will miss those. I'd have to build my own car to get them & with all the chip issues & delays, I'm leaning towards just buying a GLA off lot even though it won't have the cooling seats etc :-(

thx yes I love lexus but I tried the UX & the back row was small again like my current IS. That's been the issue with Lexus in that there back seats have no leg room. I love the Q3 too but my husband just got the Q5 so I want something different LOL & I also tried x1 which I didn't love; seemed smaller in back again & don't love the look of x2

I do admit it's much easier to load my children in my wife's Pilot versus my CLS
I don't like SUV's either......but we (my wife) have one.

Hmmm, looks like MBUSA and MB Canada "At this time, have no plans to bring the C-Class All-Terrain over to North America" so I guess you can remove that from your list. Don't feel sad about that because being the all new C-Class there might be some glitches and problems to solve, this is true for every manufacturers' first model year car.

I see. In that case, you have nothing to worry about as I don't think you will want the climate control seats on the GLA if it was an option anyways, they are called ventilated seats which basically are fans installed in the seats, not as effective as competitors' offerings where as those are actually called cooled seats.

I understand the feeling of getting a new car and the excitement it brings, been there done that. Sounds good, test drive the GLA and let us know your experience with it : ) also test drive a couple other vehicles too.

For the USA market, I think the Multimedia package includes navigation. In Canada, we call it the navigation package. If you don't find a car with that option, don't sweat on it to be honest as using Google Maps or Waze through smartphone integration is much better than MB's system anyways and I believe smartphone integration is standard. I can't remember if MBUX (the infotainment system that your GLA has) changed it yet but the current system I have in my car called COMAND for some reason never shows which side my destination is on leaving me guessing all the time.

In Canada, people associate taller vehicles as safer vehicles. To be honest, I don't fully agree with that as I think they are both as safe. I guess safer in a sense that you sit higher so you can see further, otherwise I will take a sedan or coupe over an SUV any day.
Curious though, did your wife ever consider wagons or hatchbacks unless she still prefers SUVs?

oh ok great to know; def won't wait for that then! & Wow good to know about the ventilated seats; I didn't realize that.. def sounds like it's not worth it then which makes me feel better. yes I'll def plan on test driving a bunch. I believe I would just have to plug my phone in to use the apple car play so I guess it won't be a huge deal if I find one without the navigation like u said. all of you info has been so helpful thank u!

I see, good luck and test drive some (yes some : D) with different options and see what you need or want or don't need or don't want. Different trim options, different colours and features.

I see. As for getting a totally different brand, I understand that feeling, Mercedes is a good option to consider if you don't want to get yet another Audi (I am biased though lol). I am not sure if you actually end up finding the GLA too small, perhaps test drive a GLB after you are done with the GLA and see if you really want to go ahead with the GLA.

Let us know : )
