Exclamation 2015 and 2016 CEL caused by misfire, related emission problem

soon enough you will be getting P1CE577, P030085, P30185, P030285, P020385, P1CEF85 and P06DA00.
They are all related to Misfired Cylinder#1, caused by Air and Fuel ratios that ECU sent out incorrect signal from ALL of these Sensors.
keep your service records together and get ready for nightmares dealer (STEALER) will give you and squeeze your wallet thinking we are rich and stupid royal MBZ consumers.

I am currently dealing with my 2015 and 2016 C300. CEL repeated no matter what you replaced NEW spark plugs, ignitions, air filers, MAF, intake air temperature sensor and so on. even O2 sensors cleaned.
all issues started around 45K miles when we are busy with daily life.

after 48k miles CEL comes ON and engine shakes like you are riding on a horse wagon . issue comes and go, and gotten worsen.

dealer wanted $17k to take your headache away, but NO Guarantee they will repeat again.

my independent MBZ specialist told me DONT buy I4-turbo at all.

I had driven 7th MBZs in last 34years, I6, V8 and AMG until now with well over 200k miles on some of them with never had MBZ serviced after my warranty expired.

just take them to independent MBZ shop for less than 60-70% off what stealers are treating with FREE coffees.....

sorry, we all have to deal with this misfire issue of emission problems that MBUSA should have cover under warranty of 8years 80k miles.

STEALERS are just taking us around town with open check books

this should be cover under warranty of "Emission Control problem"

no more i4-turbo for me.

mean times STEALERS will charge us $200 to $750, just to diagnose.

professional stealers.!!! to my opinion....

So this issue has a service bulletin from Benz. They know about it and are working on a fix. First, they changed the tensioner which did nothing. Then MB put a new engine in my wife's car at less than 400 miles because the noise was so bad. It still has the noise and well, it is in the shop again today. It is a chirping which is constant for the first 1-1.5 minutes at start up. It can also be heard inside the car but can quiet down and start back up. The mechanic told me, it's the engine design, something about it not being inline but at 90 degrees.

And yeah, you can hear it badly inside the car when it acts up, this isn't just a little tick like a typical MB engine. This sounds like chirping of the belt.

Does GLB share the same engine as GLC? If not, it might be a mute conversation?
Let's see how Bolemne's experience goes with his fix.

I have a GLB 22, GLC 19 and had a GLK 15. I know the engines of all 3 pretty well. GLB and GLA share the engine platform, but for some reason the GLB seems to make this noise and BENZ does not have a fix for it yet.

The GLB engine is M260 and the GLC engine is M264. The engines are very similar and appear to be internally identical. The turbocharger, starter, alternator, and possibly electrical systems are where the differences are. The differences are probably due to the longitudinal mount in the GLC versus the transverse mount in the GLB. The noise problem has to be some sort of quality control issue. Not all of the cars have it and all of the ones that don't appear to be perfect. Our GLB engine (>10,000 miles now) is quieter, smoother, and better behaved than our C250.

Compared to the 2015 GLK350, though, it is not as quiet or as smooth. Our GLK350's M276 was whisper quiet and so smooth that you had to look at the tach to prove that it was running. The start/stop system was seamless completely smooth on stop, start, and stopped restarts. It was that way from new to 160,000 miles when an unfortunate accident retired it. The GLB is not objectionable at all, though. It's longer wheelbase creates less pitching motion and a bit better directional stability, making it more comfortable on long highway trips. The additional technical features in the interior make it just a nicer car.

I'm watching this forum to see how GLBs perform over time and in different environments. Most of our Mercedes Benzes have been very reliable and performed above expectations. They did require more routine maintenance than some brands and the older ones were "kinda quirky." I'm hoping the GLB fits well into the newer group.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, only what I can to update is advise to avoid Mercedes, particularly GLB!
They told me that it was a spanner issue that couse a engine knocking, but, they dont provide me any papers.
However, dont ask me how , I was secretly informed that they solve the issue by a software manipulation (?). That is a reason why I am advised to follow the issue, which means that the root of the problem was not solved.

In addition, I had a strong airflow and wind sound in cabine at high speeds (>120kmh). They tried to put an additional layer of glue around the windshield, twice. The First time it was done very badly, for the second time I left a car in the service and they called me 2 days after to tell me that my car was damaged by theft on their parking!!! They stole a big Mercedes sign with sensors, side mirrors, made a lot of scratches and tried to remove the front lights.
They told me that their insurance will cover repair costs and offered me 200€ voucher as a compensation. I refused, made complain to Mercedes, ask for the money back or a new car (not GLB) but as they are very legaly protected probably I will need to go on the Court.
If you have any advise please share it.

Was the knocking engine issue resolved? Or do you think it’s still there?

I can try posting a “spanner” question on the technical forum, maybe somebody can advise if “spanner” is a part or just a dealer BS.

The knockig is solved. But they do it by software not by spanner replacement as was told to me. I have no idea how they do it.

Update

Just to inform you that I returned my GLB to the dealer after 1500km and got all the invested money. Many issues detected, beside the engine knocking (windshield unproperly glued, plastic protective spoilers on doors pealed, some demages on the car due to unpropriate care in service..), forced me to ask for my customer rights and to request a money refund. After a month and a half of complaining, they finally accepted my requests.

The GLB is a disappointing vehicle with poor quality.

At some MB youtube review, they discussed where MB starts, and it starts at E class, in case of SUV its GLE.
Everything below it just a marketing thing to bring new customers and keep with MB.
Quality control, materials are not that grate.

I agree. However, if you pay for premium brand you expect more quality. Not sure for the E class as well. I had E class 2020 and was good as expected. On the begining of the 2022 I changed it for a new E class and frankly speaking it is not as good as previous one. But that is just my personal feeling.

Don't tell this to the C class. It's being marketed by MB as a baby S class. This is how MB marketed my 190E which was such a success that it made the C class line possible. My 190E really is a shrunken S class and it has it's 3 pointed star emblem on top of the hood just like the legendary 540K. To say a now $50,000 car as in the C class isn't a real MB pretty much ignores the actual facts.

My GLB was 67000€, real or not real MB, the fact is a that does not worth thoes money, having in mind bad quality and all malfunctions. When buying three point star it is exceptional that all classes are premium quality.

Not trying to offend, but I think you are trying to compare luxury to quality. They are not the same thing. MB is known for it’s innovation and luxury for higher end models. We are able to enjoy same technology that S class uses on the lower tier models, however innovation comes with price (issues). Lexus is using old technology and their cars are very reliable, but it’s outdated.

I dont think that GLB is luxury car, niether so innovative. Other brands in the same car segment having similar or the same new systems, like BMW, VW, Audi, Skoda and many cheaper cars, however you dont expecting such bad quality control and lack of reilability after only 1500km. That is a point. MB was a synonym for quality in the past. The list of issues is so long including some bizzare things like a bad gluing of windshield, falling of protecting plastic spoilers on doors... as well as termination of automatic parallel parking system due to legal issues ?!?
As sad in my previous posts, I realy liked GLB, I waited for it for a year to be delivered... it could be that just did not had a luck with my semple.
However this is out of topic for this thread, just wanted to inform about results. I ended with a new car from other brand and so far I am very satisfied.

Having been raised by a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, I think your point is well taken and spot on.

Sorry but your claims about other automotive brands just aren't the actual case. There are few automotive innovations that haven't been first found on an MB S class. You're trying to compare apples to oranges. The other automotive brands you mention are all having their problems and issues as well.

I think we can give up on trying to convince Bolemne. 45+ years ago I bought a Buick that had a service record about like his GLB. If you look up POS on Urban Dictionary, there is a picture of my car by it. GM did not offer to buy the car back. I haven’t bought another one since.
