Center console and touch pad

I've owned the GLB for about 2 1/2 months and still learning the MBUX. Question here, without the remote in my pocket, I have been sitting in the driver's seat cleaning the center console and I guess I've pressed 1 of the buttons surrounding the touch pad while cleaning, and the radio has come on.

This has happened numerous times. I've let it stay on for at least 15 minutes hoping it would time out and shut off and it hasn't.

Is this normal? The only way I can shut it off is cycle the start button with the remote present.

Is there another way to shut it off without the remote? Maybe a setting in the MBUX menu. Looked in the manual and found nothing about this.
Need some guidance here.

Did you press the radio button with igninion on or off? Typically you can turn off any audio source by pressing the volume scroll wheel next to the mouse pad or on the steering wheel.

Nothing was on and the remote wasn't in the vehicle. I tried a couple of things. The radio will come on by pushing the star button( Favorites), the radio/media button and also the Home button on the touch pad without the remote present or ignition on.

Handy I guess if you want the radio on. Just trying to figure out if there is an easy way to shut it off. It stayed on until I cycled the ignition on to off with the remote present.

I will try the volume wheel idea.

Thanks

No luck with the wheel. It just mutes the volume. Doesn't turn it off.

The only other thing I can think of, if you do not want radio to come on automatically, is to switch audio input to your phone or USB input. You can push a home screen on your wheel and use left stearing wheel touch pad to change it to a differnt audio source rather than radio. However, there is no guarantee it will remember the setting next time the car starts. I think when you plug in your phone, the car automatically wants to switch audio source to Android Auto or Apple Car Play.

I shut the 250 off with the media on USB. Left the remote in the house, got in the car, and pressed the home button on the touch pad. Same thing as the radio, the USB comes up and plays the songs on it without the remote present and the ignition off.

Would someone check and see if this happens with their 250 and if so, I guess it's SOP. Would prefer it if I could turn this off in a menu somewhere.

Unlocked the car with the remote and left it inside the house. Got in the car, waited for the profile to load, pressed home button on the mouse pad and there was no sound. Scrolled to radio an selected it. Radio started to play. It was still playing when I exited to Home menu. Scrolled to Media and selected USB and Bluethooth, one at a time, and radio stopped playing since I had nothing plugged into the car (usb or phone).

Sounds like you can turn the radio or other audio source on even without the key, as long as the car is unlocked.

That's what it looks like. A pain if you accidently hit the touch pad while in the car without the remote. Not ideal in my opinion.

FYI, I hit the radio button by the touchpad without the remote present and the radio came on.

Got the remote from the house and locked the car and the radio went off.

I mentioned before when I accidently turned it on without the remote, I let the radio play for at least 15 minutes and it never timed out.

If this is how this works wouldn't you think it should shut off after a short time, say 10 - 15 minutes to prevent excessive battery drain.

I guess MB just programmed it to turn off when doors are locked.

Next time I'm at the dealer I'll see if I can get an answer from them if this is SOP.

If you press the volume roller it will turn the radio but it time out unless the ignition is on. To turn it off during that time period just press the roller knob again.

When it's on without the remote present, pressing the roller just mutes the volume, press it again and the volume returns. It doesn't turn off the media that's on.
What is the time the radio is on before the timeout shuts it down? I had it on for over 15 minutes and it didn't turn off.
