SUNROOF

My 2021 GLB came with the sunroof option. I noticed that the retractable shade is a pretty thin material.
i live in SoCal so I'm wondering about damage to the material from the sun, heat and UV rays and how long it will last.
For those of you who live in the sunbelt, Ca. Az. Tx. Fl. etc, is this a concern for you? Has anyone tinted their sunroof and if so, what material did you use?
Even with the glass somewhat tinted, there is a lot of heat and light that penetrates through it.
Your thoughts.

I was thinking the same thing last year after my iphone called 911 couple times due to excessive heat when I enter the car at the end of the work day... I got quotes for tinting the rear windows as well but I didn't have time to do it... I saw in X3 forum that some did it:

Skimming the web, Amazon actually has an inexpensive UV device if you are curious about the amount of exposure you are getting. There is a sunscreen made in Australia, Blue Lizard, that shows your exposure by turning the bottle bluer as the UV is higher.
Also, several other forums say that tinted windows, not the windshield, may shield you from about 60% of UV. so if the sunroof itself is tinted, then you have some protection there, even without the shade. The windshields have better protection because of government regs.
My guess is that any fabric will degrade in the sunlight. Fabric that hasn’t been treated for SPF protection should be more vulnerable.I doubt if MB fabric is anything special.

Hmm interesting idea. I should look into tinting the roof glass. That thing shade doesn't do much here in FL.

My concern is how thin the sunshade material is. You can see light thru it. Just not sure of the durability in the sunbelt area of the U.S.

Even though the sunroof is tinted there is a lot of heat coming thru, especially from the backseat portion.

Do not tint moonroofs, there is a high risk of explosion due to heat concentration from dark tint.... if anything, something like a high VLT (Air 80 or Stratos 70) should be the approach for heat rejection.
