Curious about this. There are articles as far back as 2014 saying that MB will partner to build unknown engines in a Nissan plant in Tennessee. Then there are people who say they know it’s the M260/M264 because they are delivered in Nissan boxes and have Nissan part numbers on the blocks. Then there are other people who say not true. There are other articles that say Nissan rejected the MB design on technical issues and refused to put it in their vehicles. In the European diesel GLBs the engine is supplied by Renault.

MB didn’t need Nissan to build an inline 4 with problems. The M271 has many pages of posts here about its lack of durability. That engine predates any dealings with Nissan. The 260/264 is supposed to be an evolution from the 270/274 and there’s not much info on that engine. It would be good to get the whole story because 260/264 variants are installed in almost the entire lineup.

270 and 274 are the same engine. 270 east west, 274 north south.

260 and 264 are the same engine and are descended from 270/274. 260 east west and 264 north south.

254 is descended from 264 and is north south.

All are problematic MB 4 bangers.

27x were built in Decherd TN in a Nissan plant. Same time frame as the GLA was built on the Juke platform. Great idea, right?

All 27x/26x/25x share some overlapping components and therefore failure modes. All are known for egregious low mileage failures. All have inconsistent quality - sometimes there is a good one, often times there isn’t.

MB 4-bangers are to be avoided.

Sorry, but this is a discussion of warranty repair as originally posted. Please give your feedback on the warranty repair if you have any experience. Thanks.

Maybe we can get an admin to delete starting with post 26 (mine). Can’t get enough details from the local dealer as I start to service these newer engines. Some of the things in the replies are inaccurate.

So the car hit 30K milage and sure enough last Thursday check engine light came on. Wife said the car shook when she started it, but then it was fine. The fastest appointment with the loaner was week away, so wife drove the car locally for a week. Car drove fine and check engine light stayed on for a week until two days ago when she took it on the highway.
Dropped car at the dealer yesterday and luckily codes stayed in the memory. Sure enough they are changing the cylinder head.
In a way I am relieved since I knew this day was coming. Initial response from the dealer that I should have it back Monday or Tuesday.
Talking to the service adviser regarding this issue, he said that model years 2024 and 2025 come with new re-designed cylinder head.

Good luck with your repairs. The 2021 GLA250 in our fleet failed at exactly 30,000 miles like your GLB. My GLB seems fine so far at ~61,000 miles. With an apology to @Serhan for maybe getting too far off topic, I had heard that it was corrected on the 2023 models. Can’t seem to get a consistent answer on that.

My 2021 GLB250 was fixed last month for this issue at 22,500 miles. I was told the replaced head was a redesigned part. I guess we will see as I plan to hold on to this car for at least three more years

My GLB35 is at 22K miles and going for its third yearly service, so far it is fine but still not much miles on the engine...

It was not you, other 2 unrelated posts. MB has similar issue and warranty extension on 2011-2016 V8 engines also... Hopefully it is fixed on all new models...

I'm interested, don't know if it's me? The PDF is cropped mid-paragraph. FYI, TIA.

2022 GLB250
My 2022 GLB250 had a P219F code and my dealer replaced the head under warranty no questions asked. My cousin is a MB mechanic in another state and said this is a pretty common issue with these engines. So common, that they are keeping spare heads around the shop, since they are doing so many of them. Sure enough my shop had a spare one and we had our car back a little over 24 hours later.

Just went over 30K miles sometime yesterday. So far so good. How quickly did you guys see the check engine light come on after hitting 30k?

Mine happened within 100 miles of that mark, but I do not think it is a good indicator. Some might have it at 17,000 miles and some still do not have an issue after 50,000 miles.
There was no warning either.

My wife’s 2021 GLB250 failed at 27,800 miles. Our 2021 GLA250 failed only a few miles after 30,000 mile service. My 2023 GLA250 is at 20,000+ and still okay. 🤞🏻
As @Vladimir Livson said, there is no warning, whatsoever. The CEL just comes on one morning.
