Unhappy Dealer not Rotating Tires

Just completed my second service (A and B) for for my GLB 250. I only drive about 7000 miles a year so the tires were not rotated the first time and now after the second service again not rotated. I can clearly see the front tires have more wear than the rear at this point. When I asked why, I was informed MB does not recommend rotating the tires if the front and rear are not within a tenth of each other. My current tires are 5/10 front and 8/10 back. This does not make sense to me. Also my SUV is 4matic so I always assumed you need to be mindful of equal tire wear to reduce stress on the transfer case. Should I be concerned here?

I typically rotate tires once a year, and I do it simply to extend life of tires and keep wear somewhat even on all 4, and I do it myself. If the dealer does not want to do it, just find a tire place and pay them to rotate it. Different places have different weird rules. I typically purchase tires from Costco and it comes with free rotation, however if you drive over 5,000 without rotating your tires by them, Costco will no longer rotate your tires.

I experienced this as well. I have 3/32 on my fronts and 6/32 on my rear. I asked for an explanation….. Laughably, my dealership told me they do not rotate tires because when the front tires turn they cup the corners of the side wall (instead of leaving them flat) and would result in less of a contact patch for the rear of the car, which could result in oversteer. I lit them up. I pulled up their tire/ wheel warranty package and quoted that if tires are not rotated the warranty is void. They quoted me $820 for two tires (on sale). I reached out to Mercedes of America and at the end of their investigation, they offered me $400 off. Still think I’ll go with Costco for non run flats.

The tire manufacturers recommend rotating every 5-6000 miles. Front tires are seeing lots of side forces that don’t affect rear tires. Not doing that will result in abnormal wear patterns affecting tire traction and noise.

Be concerned. I ended up having to purchase new front tires for exactly the same reason thinking they were rotating my tires every service interval. When I asked if they had been rotated after finding the treads wearing badly on the front, I was told they dont do that with service and no further explanation. The rear tires were still like new after 3 years.

Dealers, especially MB dealers, are clowns. Ask them to rotate the tires, and don't accept the car after the service appointment until they are rotated. Expect to pay something, I used to pay $30 or $35 for it on the W166.

Of course the dealer says it's not recommended. This means the tires wear out faster and, surprise, you need to be new tires sooner.
