Uneven Brake Pad Wear

I just replaced my front brake pads and rotors and found that inner and outer pads did not wear evenly by a factor of 3. Inner pads were 3mm thick and outer ones were 9mm think. Rotors were worn out on inside wall as well. When i changed rear brakes and rotors last spring, the difference was there, but not to this degree.

I have never seen such a huge difference in brake pad wear. Is it common for MB?

That’s not common. I don’t usually check my inner pads until the outers are below 50%. My E Class had wear indicators on both inner and outer pads. My C Class didn’t but pads on all 4 wore perfectly event.

Thanks. I’ll have to change my routine on the GLB & the GLAs.

Uneven wear could be caused by the caliper slide surfaces getting rusty and it not moving smoothly or binding.

Front passenger side inner pad has wear indicator. Rear pads do not have any.

Slide pins were free moving and had no rust on them, however, not a lot of grease inside the rubber boots. The grease was pure white, never seen that color grease before. I typically use silicone grease.

GLB/GLA are definitely down at the bottom of the ladder. While it seems to be a fairly competent vehicle (70k+, 50k+, 25k on ours), I’m going to have to treat it more like our domestics.

I think the caliper grease is white lithium grease. I have a tube made by Lubriplate that I’ve used for years. I don’t think the type of grease is critical, but I have heard that different formulas should not be mixed.
