The Official 2016 GLC Picture Thread
A binnacle is a waist-high case or stand on the deck of a ship, generally mounted in front of the helmsman, in which navigational instruments are placed for easy and quick reference as well as to protect the delicate instruments. Its traditional purpose was to hold the ship's magnetic compass, mounted in gimbals to keep it level while the ship pitched and rolled. A binnacle may be subdivided into sections and its contents typically include one or more compasses and an oil lamp or other light source. Other devices such as a sand timer for estimating speed may have been stored in the binnacle as well.
And from another dictionary:
Noun
binnacle (plural binnacles)
- The wooden housing for a ship's compass, with its corrector magnets and illuminating arrangements; the log and other equipment for measuring the ship's speed is also stowed there.
- The instrument cluster on a car or motorcycle
For some time, the term Binnacle has often been used to describe the instrument cluster in cars

I think I cracked the mystery. After visiting my dealer's lot this morning, it appears that all GLC's with the top stitched dashes have the binnacles. That is included with the interior package only I believe.

It's still a mystery to me why some GLC's have them and some don't.

This is a copy of my build with exclusive interior.

I did not have a p22 Exclusive Interior code on my build sheet.
-Black accented 20" wheels (MB configurator)
-Grey/silver 20" wheels
-Silver 18" "standard" wheels
-Flat-bottom steering wheel (designo package too)
I was under the impression that the flat-bottom steering wheel and grey 20" wheels were unavailable in the US market.
