GLC 300
Actually it does not autonomously brake. Hence the word "assist."

I thought it did with Pre-Safe braking? Does Distronic have to be active for this to work?
If the system senses that a collision is imminent, its PRE-SAFE Brake feature automatically initiates up to 40% braking power, audibly alerts the driver, and engages the PRE-SAFE system. When the driver brakes, 100% braking pressure is instantly applied. And should the driver fail to respond, the system can apply full braking on its own, serving as an "electronic crumple zone" to help reduce the intensity of a collision
It's on page 77 of the manual

While not a GLC, the CPS on my GLA definitely works. We got the chance to "test" it within an hour of picking up our car in Stuttgart. On the autobahn traffic started to back up in the two right hand lanes so as we were slowing from 70mph to 50mph some guy in an old Golf pulled right in front of us and stalled... Beep! hit the brake BeepBeepBeep! brake goes all the way before I could do it and the car does a very controlled stop inches from his bumper. If it was just me hitting the brake, I'm embarrassed to say that I probably would have hit him with our shiny new car.
