2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
I had same issue with two 2014 e550's but was never afraid to drive it

Exactly. Existing forum members aren't reporting anything. Could be a Lexus fanboy that's trying to keep these models from taking away Lexus's market share. Mercedes and BMW has been eating Lexus's lunch the last half of the year.
Also notice how they aren't responding or defending themselves?

The new nine speed is a much smoother transmission than the previous 7 speed which was prone to some fairly rough down changes.

After owner for 6 months, I find the transmission to be a little jerky at times, moreso in the sport modes but nothing so abrupt that it causes concern. The transmissions on other vehicles I test drove are much worse.

Other vehicles as in other Mercedes vehicles? Or vehicles from other brands?

I would not necessarily disregard all complaints. In my case when in driving mode sport + when accelerating from complete standstill the car jerked while accelerating. I would compare it to driving a car with a stick and taking the foot off the clutch too fast and not accelerating enough. It has happened twice. my car has no 4000 miles and got it on March 2016. I took it to the dealership and could not replicate the problem. They indicate there is no service bulletin for it. This was a few months ago and never had the problem again

When I test drove the GLC, the tranny seemed smooth.
However my GLE does this jerky/clunk, when I floor it on an incline, shifting from 2nd to 3rd. it's unacceptable to have tranny problems on a lux vehicle like that. To me this sounds like a deeper problem with MB - Factory Defect.

I went to the dealership the other day to talk about the jerky transmission. Response:
Yes, we have had a lot of complaints about that issue. We are not doing anything about it, you can contact the regional rep if you want. I did not care for that lack of concern about the problem. My first and last Mercedes.

I am coming from a RX350 like you and waiting on a custom order GLC300 4matic to be delivered in DEC. Is the jerky transmission and lack of concern a deal breaker if you were in my position? I thought there was a software fix available? What model do you have 4Matic? How disconcerting is the jerking as others are not experiencing it. Also when do you experience it, how often and why would it cause you to say "last Mercedes"?

They want to know about poor products and poor customer service? GM is a prime example. I speak from experience.

I just call it as I hear it.
I too came from a RX350, it too had it's own set of small problems. $50k doesn't buy you what you think it should. Sad.
The interior and the solidness of the Mercedes is better for sure.
Lexus has a softer ride and a better transmission.
The biggest thing will be reliability. Only time will tell.
PS: The jerkiness of the transmission is intermittent, sometimes it's just awesome how smooth it is and then, it gets a 'clunk'.

Found this on a Business Insider site which I thinks describes the issue much better than some of the posts found here. If this is indeed what people are reporting it is apparently being caused by the way the driver accelerates from a stop. It also is the reason why some report "smooth as silk" experiences. As I am not prone to jack rabbit starts it is too minor an issue to change my mind.
"Our only complaint with the driving experience involves the GLC's 9-speed automatic. We've driven several 9-speed units from various manufacturers, and they are generally abysmal. Mercedes hasn't quite perfected it either, but it's gotten considerably closer than anyone else. In the GLC, the transmission feels rough when accelerating from a standstill and would often abruptly kick into gear, sending a jolt through the car. We encountered this several times while pulling of out parking spaces. But at speed and under hard acceleration, the 9-speed delivers power smoothly and effectively and without any significant lag."

My experience with this transmission is that the car starts from a standstill in second gear and third gear is where the bulk of the acceleration comes from. The second and third gears are spaced further apart compared to 4,5,6,7,8,9 when accelerating the car would often rev past 3k rpm before shifting into third compared to 2000ish RPM range for the other gears so when you accelerate you are doing 50km/h in second you will be doing 3krpm but will drop to sub 2000 RPM that is a rather large RPM drop which is why there is the "clunk" all other gears will shift at around 2000rpm and drop to 1500ish when shifting up.

I don't do jack rabbit starts. I think it is actually the slower starts, plus one of the other issues, which has seem to have corrected itself after 5k miles, was the down shifting while coasting up to a stop light or stop sign. A couple times I thought I was rear ended, it dropped down a gear so harshly. That has now gone away.
That quote does sum it up best. It seems to me a software fix is all that is needed.

Why does it start in second gear? I have noticed this also. I guess first would be useful when towing especially when starting up a steep hill, but other than that it seems like they could have just skipped that one and given us a taller final drive gear for highway cruising.
