I dont't know about the GLC, it had the newer Transmission. My ''clunk'' experience is with the GLE, 7 speed tranny. The issue for me is up shifting, no downshifting problems. Only when I floor it, stand still on a slight incline, it kicks in 2nd and then 3rd is Clunk/jolt. It's not pleasant. it doesnt do it on a flat road with normal acceleration. MB dealrhsip here has a very good customer service but the explanations they come up with sounds like malarkey

my experience is that the First gear is useful when starting from standstill on a steep hill and the 9th gear is good for cruising at just over 1000rmp doing 110+ km/h

I was driving around yesterday and noticed it starts in first gear if you are using sport mode.

An update. I now have about 2000 miles on my GLC and the transmission bang has not returned. I am very happy. Seems like my problem was slightly different than the rough shifting posted here. I understand the rough shifting but mine was different. Like the motor or trans was disconnected then reconnected rapidly. A shuddering bang throughout the car. Ever been rear-ended at low speed? Yep, that hard. No problems now.

MERCEDES GLC 250
Angry GLC 250 JERKING PROBLEMS

Hi,

i have a mercedes GLC 250, 2016 model. i am experiencing the same jerking problem in sport or sport + mode and the jerk is pretty bad. Mercedes called me today to advise they can't find anything and if i can't prove it, they got nothing to work on and cannot do anything. This is total B\s.

apart from that, my car gave up on me twice already for complete engine failure as a result of some software issue. My car then had to be towed in twice for a supposedly software update. I am completely pissed off at mercedes for selling me a piece of scrap. i mean these cars don't come cheap!

I can't replicate it every time, so perhaps it has to do with the slope of the road, or maybe light application of the throttle.

I did some research and was alarmed that the new C-Class has a terrible problem almost identical to that which I am experiencing.
click here to read about it

But I had thought the GLC had an entirely new transmission, but perhaps it is the same as the C-Class (which would make sense)

I just traded my 2014 Q5 which never had anything like this, I also have a 2015 2 Series BMW Convertible that has a silky smooth transmission.

Am I alone?

2016 GLC300

I bought my GLC300 in Feb 2016. This was my first and last MB. My dealership kept it for 10 days and said they didn't know how to fix it and corporate told them to pull tranny and replace a valve. When I got it back it was still the same. Took it back, they kept it two days, the lead mechanic said he knew what the problem was and several had came in the same way and there is No Fix! He said he told them not to have him pull the tranny because that wasn't the issue. Needless to say, my Benz has been parked since end November while I make payments and filed a lemon law suit. IT's a fight to get even a brief response from corporate Attny, but they are stating now, 4 months later, there is nothing wrong with my car, my second visit when the lead mechanic and my service representative told me they couldn't fix it had conveniently not recorded in the dealerships log and they want to await trial which can take up to 2 years! So I'm stuck with a broken Mercedes and a high payment and no transportation! I'm so disappointed.

I think I may have posted this - but we had to have our Transmission completely replaced. We bought it Dec 19th and was in the shop 3-4 time with these issues, and finally they dropped the pan and there were a bunch of metal shavings, indicating the transmission was toast. So they kept the car and it was in the shop for 2 months. Got it back last week and now it runs the way it should.

[I posted on another forum, copied here]

I have a 2017 GLC AMG 43 COUPE with 1700kms on it and it has this exact same issue in Sport+. It just buckles so much when taking off I'm afraid I might kill somebody with the car. How are you supposed to enjoy driving when the car just keeps on lurching!

Not only that, when slowing down in ANY mode, it just jerks to a stop. Most pronounced when you are slowing down from any gear beyond 3 and going down to 2. It feels a bit like the car is slow-motion shaking to a complete stop. If you creep at the same gear though (2 mostly), then it doesn't do it at all; otherwise, it's like a crab doing a slow motion crawl to a stop.

I complained to the dealership at around 1200kms and I was told that the jerky slowdown was "normal", alongside with the Sport+ craziness. They gave me the old "it's adjusting to your driving style so give it until 3000kms" BULL****.

I have other performance oriented cars, most recently a BMW M550i and it's so smooth, whenever I drive the GLC I get so frustrated I want to pour gasoline on it an BURN the MOFU. Does Mercedes USA treat customers any better or is it just Mercedes Canada? Would going to another dealership make any difference?

Come to think of it, the dealership also lied about "adjusting parameters" on the car (nothing to do with Mercedes Corp. as a whole of course). They just reduced the pressure on all tires to 30PSI and hoped I didn't notice it.

Thanks!

I would find another dealer to help you with your problem. I would not be using anything but Econ /comfort mode. Your car has not completed breakin period. In The USA the breakin is the first 1000 miles.

Sport plus mode is like super sport in Porsche. It downshifts as you are slowing down from a very high speed. If you want comfortable driving normal eco should be your selection.

Was talking about UPSHIFTING in sport+ as mentioned in the orginal post. The slowdown jerking happens in ANY mode.

As for the "1000 miles", it's beyond that already or am I supposed to expect that all these problems magically go away at 1001 miles?

The principle is very simple. If other GLC AMG43's don't have these issues from the get go, why should I live with mine?

You should not live with these things. I would have my car looked at by another dealer. The shifting in sport plus is pretty aggressive. It should not be in comfort/eco. Transmission may need a reset.

'17 GLC 300 4matic, 2009 C300 4matic sport
Wife and I have had our '17 GLC 4matic for about a month now and just passed over 300 miles when driving today felt a jerk slowing down around 25 mph. We felt this jerk each time we slowed down between 25-35 mph. Came across this thread and see we are not alone. This is our 4th MB. Ironically on our 2009 C300 earlier today it wouldn't start and forums lead me to believe it is an ignition switch. The C300 has less than 75k miles. Bad day with our benzies!

I have the same problem, going from D2 to D1. I got it from the dealer 25 days ago, it spent 13 at service. They also had to change brakes because they were screeching.

2017 Mercedes GLC43 AMG
I have a 2017 GLC43 AMG with the 9G Tronic transmission. I am experiencing similar problems with the transmission as others in this thread. When coming to a stop and applying the brake, I can the feel the car downshifting & engine braking which causes the car to "jerk" or "jolt". However, if I allow the car to glide to a stop without braking, then the transmission downshifts smoothly with no engine braking. I have taken my car to one dealership twice and another dealership once to address this issue. Both dealerships state they can't replicate my issue and the transmission is working fine.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Had the exact kind of issues with my GLC43. Check out the last few posts of this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/glc-class...ml#post7377814 There's a bulletin notice out for the gearbox that involves adaptions on clutch and gearbox. Had the work done 2 weeks ago and is infinitely smoother now. I've included paperwork on that thread

i used to get jerking if i released gas quickly
slowly releasing gas the car was smooth
after software update the jerkiness is gone but when slowing i get more engine braking than i did before, not as smooth as i would like
but the awful jerkiness is gone, so this is i guess better than what i had before

GLC300 2020

Hello everyone,

Like many here, I joined the forum because my brand new 2020 GLC 300 has the worst transmission!

My biggest complaint/issue is the sudden jolt/jerk between 3rd and 2nd gears as I slow down a stop.

This is not my first Mercedes, I have had several (C300s and GLS450s), but this is the first one to have done so!

Just complained with Mercedes, anyone has luck or update on this? Or should I just go trade in for a BMW?! SMH

MB Service Schedule

Im at 60,00 miles and due for B service.
my MB dealer quoted me $600 (oil change, filter, top up fluids, tire check rotation and drain and refill the break fluid )
an other MB is quoting me $300 for B service but no break fluid drain and refill.
That's a big difference. Do I need break fluid replacement at this time ?
what is the MB recommended service ?
Where can I find it and print it ?
i didn’t know such discrepancies existed between dealers.
