Here is a link to a good UK article on AdBlue for diesel owners.
https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/tips-and-...rce=newsletter
From memory the GLC has around 27lt in capacity, so no need to top up between annual servicing, which is 25,000km or 12 mths.
Usual consumption rate is 1lt per 1000km.

Teckno, was it you that had a Ctek battery charger? if so, do you know if these chargers can be connected whilst the battery remains connected to the car?

Hi,
Yes it is I !!
Woops, did not see any warnings to disconnect or remove.
I have used this device on two GLC and Mazda 3 , all with stop start and the new generation battery that is now fitted.
Have not experienced any issues or error codes.
So far so good.
I am happy with these units.
How are you going ?

Oh good! that sounds promising!.. Ive just ordered the 5A version of the Ctek charger. Hopefully it lands on my doorstep tomorrow.. *fingers Crossed *. The specs look good on the charger, and everyone gives it a good rap.. It does sort of imply that it can be connected to a battery that is still connected to the car. It says that it is 'friendly to car electronics / ECU'.. This will be good for quick top-ups, and hopefully prolong the battery. I like the idea of being able to connect and leave it on for long periods of time - this will work well if im away and the car is sat for a couple of weeks.

Tiger, Am confidant you'll be very satisfied with your new Ctek. Mine is 13 years old and still works as if it were new. I use it primarily on my Corvette over the winter and in the spring it cranks up as if it has been driven yesterday.
A typical first class device by a Swedish company manufactured in, surprise, China. lol

That's great feedback, Larry. I dont think there is much ( in the way of electronics ) that isnt made in China these days! hehe.. Good to hear you've gotten 13 years of service out of it.

Hooked up the new battery charger last night. Had to leave it on over night to fully charge the battery. It must have been quite a bit low. Charger is easy to use, and nice and compact. It works a treat!
I might start giving it regular top-ups from now on.

Great news Tiger_X on the charger. Yes it is surprising how low the battery seems to drop to.
I am confident with regular use the battery will be given a much improved life, before needing to replace.

Mercedes in Australia currently facing a range of safety recalls for a range of models, including GLC.
I must admit MB Oz are proactive in writing to all affected clients advising them of their concerns and recall arrangements.
https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-new...paign=theguide
Shame however quality controls or supplier issues necessitating such recalls.

“ Some interesting comments re test of GLC 63
Ride comfort is decent for a performance SUV, but even in Comfort mode you will feel every bump, crack and expansion joint in the road. That's likely due in part to this tester's optional 21-inch wheels, which look fantastic but wear tires with relatively skinny sidewalls.
In tight, low-speed turns (think getting out of a narrow parking space) you'll also feel some hopping as that rear differential binds a bit; it's a habit familiar in quite a lot of high-performance vehicles.”
So we now see a reviewer suggesting it is a ‘characteristic’ - how quaint and convenient.......

Laser wheel alignment explained.

Hope you find this of interest. I think the newer “Hunter” machines being used in some MB dealers ar Laser types.

Info re stop start battery.
This is from Mazda for I-Stop system, but I think the document is a good insight into differences between conventional and these new batteries in our Mercedes.
Mazda Service Information: Fundamental Knowledge of Battery used for i-stop System
Battery_Used_for_i_stop_System.pdf ( 393.05k ) Number of downloads: 1096
I purchased a battery analyser from our discount food store, “ALDI” who have weekly specials across a wide range of car, camping and lifestyle parts.
It appears my 2.5 yo battery ‘needs to be replaced.
I will post actual readings soon for comment from others who understand readings.

Battery details for GLC, Diesel.
WAGON = Part No= 001 982 81 08 VRLA – AGM
COUPE = Part No = A001 982 95 08. VRLA , AGM
12v. 80Ah. RC 140 min.
800A (EN , SAE , GS). Germany.
======================
Test results Wagon.
12.50V
640A
Internal resistance = 4.5m..
Health = 64%
Charge = 85%
Message = REPLACE......
Similar results for Coupe, Health = 56%, Charge = 80%, 12.48V and 600A.
Coupe driven briefly during morning, but parked for 4 days prior.
Wagon parked overnight, but driven 70km each day for last 4 days..
looks like I will book each in later for MB to test and hopefully replace under current warranty.
Battery tester states low frequency use , you should cycle battery 3-5 times (charge and discharge) before testing to achieve reliable result.
If after 3-5 times health is still lower than 60%, should consider replacing.
Low use batteries should be charged every 1-2 months to extend battery life.
Not sure why device said replace battery when book states if health greater than 60% and volt greater than 12.4V, it’s a good battery, where my AGM at 800A states it need replacing.
Hope this helps and if any of you have electronics background, feel free to jump in with comments.

Interesting comment from our friends in UK.
Appears there is a ‘recall’ for diesels to make them Euro 6b compliant ?
https://www.glcforums.com/forum/322-...emissions.html
Unsure if Oz cars need to be remapped for emissions, might be a general notice if Oz govt regulations dictate, or may ignore.
Hopefully not linked to fiasco with VW and their defeat software, labelled Diesel Gate.....

More info from our UK cousins.
Looks like the GLB, a SUV, based on the A-Class platform might be on the roads mid 2019.
It will sit just under our GLC’s.
https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/news/1650...rce=newsletter
Who knows when it might get to Oz shores, maybe late 2019 with supplies coming first 1/4 in 2020 ?
Be interesting to see which factory complex, in which country might be making the RHD version.
Hopefully the tyre crabbing issue will be eradicated, and not be seen as a ‘characteristic”.
Could be an interesting earner for the Brand.

Experienced the Radar sensors dirty see owners manual message driving in heavy rain last week.
Has anyone else received this error message during some of the recent crazy weather?

First time was attributable to snow and slush covering the sensors.
Second time was just last week driving in absolute driving rain. Was nearly home so ignored the fault. Parked in the garage. Next day upon starting the vehicle the fault had cleared.
It appears the sensors are a bit too susceptible to environmental conditions.

Seems it is a common issue when driving in intense rain.
Probably had 150mm of rain in 3 hours driving through intense weather to trigger this issue, I was more worried about aquaplaning than the sensor issue. We drove straight through the storm system shown on the radar pic.

Hi, Combined 78,000km in both GLC and not an issue, no snow or ice, but some intense rain in city freways and open country highways, where other cars had pulled over.
Originally test drove Lexus NX in moderate heavy rain storm on country highway at night, whole safety system shut down, with warnings.
Quick online manual stated if heavy weather then safety syst stopped working,,,, not happy.
Very impressed with MB systems.
