Screeching Brakes on the GLC
#377
I've had this issue with my GLC43 since I bought it. I kinda gave up trying to get it fixed. Maybe I will try to get this fixed again. I've got nearly 8k on it now (I drive a lot.)
It's sucks to spend nearly 70k on an SUV that sounds the way it does.
Is there something specific everyone is asking for to get this done, or just mention the brake issue again?
Thanks,
-John

My dealer requested me to make an audio recording of the noise and this was sent through to Germany with details of the brake pads fitted.
The dealer claimed that MB in Germany will make up a brake pad set for my car that will not screech. It is not clear what will happen if the new revised brake pads needs replacing in a few months time ....

Replacement brake pads are needed to solve the screeching problem due to the brake compound used which causes the noise.
Here are the LI reference #'s and part #'s for the fix
FRONT: LI42.10-P-065628. Parts: 000-420-81-00-64 (TS Disk Brak) and 001-989-87-51 (Brake Paste)
REAR: LI42.10-P-065058. Parts: 000-420-83-00-28 (TS Disk Brak) and 001-989-87-51 (Brake Paste)

I do not quite believe that but have no choice but to accept the explanation.

My new GLC occasionally has screeching noises when reversing. It does not happen consistently so I am worried that I may not be able to reproduce this to those service guys...
I thought this was supposed to have been "fixed" lol. Clearly not.
I thought this was supposed to happen only in the cold weather.. not 30 degrees lol.
Quite disappointed with these "little" things, though I still love the way it drives

If it's brand new, who knows for sure if in the new brake pads were put on when it was being manufactured? Let them know about it ASAP and have them put in the 'fixed' ones when you get a chance.

Agree. They should be able to get it fixed. I do not know when they changed materials at the factory. Dealer should be able to tell you.

Got brake pads replaced. They gave a very ambiguous explanation of "these brakes sometimes just screech and yours were worse than usual." LOL.
Now I'm waiting for rear window seat button to be replaced (it just does not work).

I have bad news for all of you who think that Mercedes has developed a fix for the noisy brakes when backing up.
My dealer has been officially informed by Germany that there is no fix. Apparently those of you who believe that your cars are no longer noisy when in reverse, are mistaken. Maybe you just got used to the noise...

Will have to see what happens. I have had both front and rear brakes done and noise is gone. If comes back, will discuss with dealer. So far so good.

I had both replaced not so long ago. They don't make noises when reversing anymore, but they do make screeching noises once in a while when braking in general lol. I can see them calling this "normal" though.

brake squeaking after all replacement pads installed
I have changed pads twice over the months based on the service memos from Mercedes. The second time there was improvement...for a while. After a few weeks it was back. The dealer indicates there are no further instructions from Mercedes and nothing else can be done. I called Mercedes, they escalated one level up but really no solution. It is my first Mercedes and the way it's going also my last. Exploring using the Lemon Law to give this car back and get it repurchased. So frustrating. How is it possible that my cheaper cars I had in the past never gave me an issue?

2016 GLC300 4MATIC
GLC Screeching Brakes
At our dealership over the last few months we have replaced both front and rear pads on at least two dozen GLC's including my 2016 GLC300 4MATIC. The new pads have fixed the problem on all of them. Mercedes is covering the expense under warranty. One of my customers said that after a couple of weeks the squealing returned. At my suggestions they performed a couple of "panic stops" from 60+ mph and the brake squeal has not returned.

Had my front and back brake pads replaced in March 2017---the screeching stopped then and has not come back. And I don't think it's a matter of cold versus warm weather that caused it. My GLC's brake screeching started last year in June when it was quite warm and humid, and screamed like a banshee all the way from then until the brakes' replacement in March this year. I am very thankful for that (as are my neighbours)!

is there an official bulletin for this and does anyone know if both front and brakes are replaced. seeme like the back to me but hard to tell. it pretty much just does it this one time of day and thats it. very odd. ikm afraid they wont do anything since they wont be able to replicate it most likely,.
