- I think it’s the suspension - MB is trying to be sporty like BMW, with stiff suspension. When I’m driving the GLC300 and go over a bump or over a ramp into a parking lot, the front takes a huge hit and it sound awful. Everything on the glc300 is cheaply made - windshield, wipers etc

Oh no !!! What can I do? I saw someone else bought Goodyear Assurance... I just leased this car. Aside from this I really like it. Do you have any suggestions?

Before I purchased my GLC I drove all three tire sizes and had each car for at least 2 days. Spending 60K is an important investment.
I also read everything I could find, including this MT article when it was rated best SUV for 2017. Note the mention of the “ jittery” handling as well as the notes on what the design engineers accomplished with mostly existing materials.
https://www.motortrend.com/news/merc...v-of-the-year/

I have over 20K now, very even tread wear on the original tires which I inflate to 35 cold, and, in spite of experiencing the same sensation from the suspension that some drivers complain about, I’m still satisfied because I rigorously tested this vehicle before buying.
This is my third benz in 20 years. Each of them have had some peculiar individual issues that took some getting used to. Overall, MB still makes the best.

Thanks for the response. It will definitely take some getting use to. I traded in a Lexus RX350 and the ride quality is night and day. I have 32 in The fronts and 42 in the rear. I will try 35 and see if, this helps. We have harsh winters here so, I’m very leery of spin outs. I will call the dealership tomorrow. There’s no way this is considered normal.

don't over inflate the tires. If u look at the convo above u will see that i suffered a lot and reached a conclusion that the sporty look and feel of the car had compromised the way it handles bumps and pits. I have tested 2 new other cars same model and found the same bottoming up and weird handling of pits. However, tires play a huge role in the driveability of the car. I got the dealer to change my Michelin NRFT which had flat spots at less than 5k with continental compactsport NRFT. The drive is nicer but the bottoming up is the same (characteristics of the car). Someone mentioned above that they are trying to imitate BmW, that is true. Looking backwards now, I would have spent more time testing the car before buying it.

2020 GLC 300 SUV 4Matic

Cold tire inflation 32-35 PSI

No issues thus far & we are close to being pothole capital of America, from frost/freeze & lots of snow.

yours are R16 so u shouldn't have any issue. I'm talking about the GLC coupe not SUV and also R20! Big difference in driveability.

PROBLEM SOLVED!
What happens when we get a flat, you may ask. That's what road service insurance is for. At least I (hopefully) won't be having to replace a very expensive run flat tire (as you will with the Pirellis which are "not repairable").
I changed to Michelin’s premier LTX and I have the same bottoming out problem? The tire pressure is 32 front 42 rear. I will change to 35 all around. What is your tire pressure and is it the same model.

bottoming up is a characteristic of the car. I drove test 2 new 2020 GLC coupe and found the same issue. The only issue that can be avoided or minimised is the sound from wheels and the pits handling. Mine is 2020 GLC coupe and I changed my Michelin non run flat to continental sports contact R20. So far drive nice but same with regards to huge bottoming up on bumps, u feel the dashboard will fall and your tethers a huge hit.

I test drove a brand new one with those continentals. It did seem to ride better however, someone else posted that the Goodyear
weatherready had a better review for snow and rain on tire rack. How long have you used these continentals and how have they performed?

mine is all weather since I live in riyadh saudi Arabia. I have a feeling that it won't last too much and I would be lucky if it lasts 4 years or my usual 25 to 25k mileage in 4 years. I honestly lost love to the car the moment I drove and saw the primitive functionalities it have compared to the price I paid. Still contemplating selling it and getting a range rover velar or a BMW X5 OR 6

I chose Goodyear WeatherReadys, 235-55-19. Handling remains tight but the ride is now properly Mercedes-like, with all of the annoying impact harshness and body vibration gone. I picked up a compact air pump and Slime for $22 at Pep Boys, and of course I have 3+ years of roadside assistance remaining. I'll buy a spare and a jack if I decide to keep the car past the 4 year mark, .
I’m scheduled to have these fitted on Wednesday. I did test drive a GLC with continentals but, I’m going with your recommendation. I hope they are continuing to perform well?

2022 GLC
My brand new 2022 GLC has this issue, the steering vibrates for several seconds after hitting a bump at highway speed. Really it will vibrate until you apply pressure to the steering and break the resonance The software update did not fix it, and the dealer is still investigating. I got a courtesy car, also a 2022 GLC, and it has the same issue! Are any other 2022 owners experiencing this?

Exactly the same for me here. With 20" wheels : though the car drives just fine otherwise, it vibrates for several seconds after hitting a bump at highway speed. On a 2022 GLC too. I must also tell you that it is my 2nd GLC and the previous one (with 19" wheels in run flat, and air suspension) never dit this.
Really strange.

Just a quick note. I have a 2019 GLC 300 so I monitor this forum. What I will tell you is I have Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady tires on my 2015 Kia Sedona and after 80K miles, still have 6/32" tread. Pretty impressive! Handle pretty well in the snow also for a non-winter dedicated tire.

Got my 2022 back from the dealership. There is a software fix, though not the same one as mentioned earlier in this thread. Seems totally fixed now. Mercedes is aware of the issue, just bring it in if you experience this.

Hi, from your documentation, can you quote the ‘service fix’ code number, so we can ask our Dealers when next visiting.
We are RHD, so maybe we will miss out on this ??
Thanks

I believe the code is 540991. Just make sure they open a PTSS case with corporate. I had them try the xentry update posted previously here and it did not work. It was only after they opened the PTSS case that the engineers in Germany provided the new update.

Thank you Koziarbr. Extremely useful. I'll do the same as you, hoping that my car dealer will manage to fix this!

Can you please post the screen of paper work from dealer?
I did quick search for this code and not much were found, just basic flash for this code

540991 PROGRAM AND CODE CONTROL UNIT

Potentially they just updated the ECU with latest firmware but how this can fix vibration?

Good question. @koziar: can you give us more details, so that we can provide this info to our dealer?

Does the SW upgrade work for 2016 GLE250D?

Hi! Just purchased a 2016 GLE 250D with 34k miles on in. I have been experiencing the "control" issues when hitting a manhole cover or pothole when going above 40mph (feels like the back end is kicking out / car is going a bit sideways). Scared the crap out, which caused me to get new front tires (the back tires have ~10k miles on them). All 4 tires are Pirelli Scorpion Verde tires (not run flats). Unfortunately, the issue has not gone away.

My question - does LI46.35-P-062791 cover a 2016 GLE250D? I am hoping the answer is YES. The interior is great and the ride is smooth on good roads, but the sway and "kick" when hitting potholes and manhole covers makes for an unnerving ride. I have had 2 fully loaded Acura MDXs in the past and loved them, and was expecting my MB experience to be ever better. So far, it has not been good.

Any guidance greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yes it does. But it sounds like what you are experiencing is something totally different, as you are mentionning issue in the back end, whereas the issue this post is about is on steering wheel vibration.
