Wheel Vibration when hitting small bumps in road

My new GLC 300 wheels vibrate exponentially compared to the size bump they hit. Most noticeably when driving over a manhole cover in a turn, the wheels really vibrate and shimmy. Anybody else experience this?

I experienced something like that, dealer overinflated tires to 46psi , when the recommended pessure is 30psi in altitude . Hope it helps

My wheels were also significantly over-inflated on delivery... not sure why dealers always seem to do this

It's common for tires to be overinflated at the factory so they don't flat spot in transit. They are supposed to be adjusted before delivery of the vehicle, and, apparently, this isn't always done.

C300W4, GLC
Had the exact same symptoms and had vehicle at dealer today - 45 lbs in each of the tires. They lowered to 32. I should have recalled I had the same issue with my C300 a year ago.

Took car to dealership today, was told the ride is normal. Mechanic then took me for a ride in identical new model. It did not have the wheel reverberation. He admitted they were different. They are now looking further into it.

Fletcher Jones seems to have fixed issue with reverberation by re-torquing all suspension components and proper tire inflation. Will post another update in a month to see if fix has held or not. Still, really happy with the GLC despite this bump in the road.

After reading this I checked my tires and they were at 44 psi. lowered to 32 psi and what a difference In ride noise and vibration over bumps. Wondering if this is the real problem with the strut noise? Hope this is the solution only time will tell.

Have the same thing.Same thing noticeably when driving over a manhole covers wheels really vibrate and reverberation. When car was at dealer they could not find a problem.

So went on a drive with shop foreman and could not make it happen my luck all roads around dealer was paved with manhole covers level with road.
Going to wait awhile then force them to take a 30 min. ride to the throgs neck bridge to drive over the expansion joints to see how BAD it is. It sounds like the car is falling apart.
If not going to get rid of it.

Yes the feedback when I run over any debris / pothole / bump in the road is significant. I don't mind it too much as normally the suspension is very smooth. But that did catch my attention how the wheel / handling seems to react too much to bumps in the road at lower speeds to about 50 mph.

Same Thing

I am so glad i found this forum. I had same problem and took it in and they said nothing to me about tire pressure but now ill check the specks and adjust. But has anyone had a noise or problem while reversing. I hard right/left and reverse and start to straighten up and sometime hear a popping noise or rubbing. If you notice, the upper control arms in the front only have about 2 inches of clearance. i think thats what it is but no idea.. anyone else?

All- please let your dealer at least know of the issue so they can potentially see how many there are out there and be aware of it. My dealership is starting a case file.

Not convinced the wheel reverberation is normal.

Took car back to dealership, told them to take it for the night. They claim it is normal. I replied that no other car I have had does this. Their response is that is a different suspension, so it will feel different. On the freeway it took us out of the line of travel and had to correct. Also, a coworker of mine bought the same car, I took his for a ride and similar feel. However when we turned off the stability control, it seemed less so. My gut feeling is that the stability control got over-engineered and this contributes to the reverberation in the wheels.
Also, I had a loaner c300 and it did a similar thing. If they all ride like this....what now?

There is definitely some mis-calibrations in the dampening of the suspension. It bounces around midturn if there is an imperfection in the road. I personally set all 4 tires to their appropriate spec.

Did anyone here solve the issue not by buying a new car? I have the same problem too and that vibration really drives me crazy...

Ironically there is no information on whether the affected people have the optional air body control or not.

Let's start with you; Do you have the air suspension in your GLC?

nope, just regular suspension.

I do notice that my running tire pressure is 40, higher than suggestion.
Will deflate them next time in dealer. See if that would mitigate the wheel vibration problem...
