REAR VIEW CAMERA GRID MARKS
Does anyone know the function of the grid lines on the rear view camera? When I look at the camera items appear to be very far away but when I turn around and look they are much, much, closer. Thank you

For those that haven't placed your order, do yourself a favor and get the 360 surround view cameras. Absolutely worth it and makes parking (especially backing in) like a top down video game.

I really can't use it as a gauge as it appears so deceptive. I have it set for the wide angle. I was hoping someone would know if the hash marks indicate something like 6" or 12" etc per has mark.

It's a little tricky to get used to. There's a 12" red guide line and a 36" yellow guide line. Generally, I only pay attention to these. In the OM you can see what I'm referring to.

I think the minor gridlines (the ones not described by guido above) are just reference marks and don't have any specific measurement designation. They aren't called out in the OM.
You could always measure for yourself with a helper to see if they coincide with any regular interval of distance but my guess is no because it's looking at the ground which is receding in the distance. Like the ties on the RR track, the further in the distance, the closer they appear which is an illusion of course. The grid lines seem to be equidistant though maybe the difference is imperceptible.

Then it would appear that the camera just shows that something is behind you but now how far or how close. This is because of the extreme wide angle lens which distorts distances also. There should be an indication of just how close you are so you don't have to get out of the car to see.
