Stop/Start function
I have this in my X3 and it drives me nuts having to manually override it every time you start the car. In fact BMW in Australia will disable it if you sign a disclaimer against their economy claims...but I havent done it.
When I get my GLC it will annoy me again and I have been asking dealers/sales people what the situation is. One helpful sales person who was using a GLC as a daily drive experimented and advised that the best you can do is to set a "personal" drive mode which you select at startup and set the start /stop feature to OFF. The only problem is the drive mode automatically resets to Comfort overnight so you dont get a permanent fix but you do for the day.
Can anyone confirm this understanding..?

According to the Owner's Manual (US?) on the center console there is a separate button to activate or deactivate the Start/Stop function. Here is a snapshot of page 159 in the manual:

Thanks for that..seems to confirm what I understand. The thing with turning Eco off is that it will automatically come on again when engine started next time...so I am suspecting that you have to turn if off every start up if you dont want it.

You can program your "Individual" driving mode so that it is off which is what I did. Every time I start the car, I switch to Individual (which is also a PITA to do every time).

Again, you have to change it when you start the car...so same effort as switching off the start/stop but at least the other settings are changed to your preference too.

I just leave it alone. At first it annoyed me, now after 5,000kms, I don't notice it anymore. Besides almost all new cars now have the stop/ go function and like MB cannot be continuous disengaged.

Yep Ian I am sure you are right. I wonder with my X3 about a starter motor which I imagine has been made for (?) 8000 duty cycles now being asked for 80,000....or whatever the numbers might be. I suppose they have changed the starter motors to reflect the new life required. If I were a cynic (god forbid) I might suspect they only need them to survive the warranty period.
In any event I am ready to surrender when I get my GLC and ignore it.

The ECO start/stop does not use a starter motor - the Mid City hack can be installed by any competant mechnic - there are probably video instructions on the web somewhere

I agree. Just don't pay attention to the feature. Just like the darn chime when the door is opened.

I drove several BMWs with this feature in the last year and the stop/start function actually shakes the car and if very noticeable. The experience with my GLC is totally different. Very smooth and not noticeable . The BMWs had a significant lag.

mine stalled yesterday in the middle of traffic in beverly hills...it wouldnt restart after the car turned off at a stop like normal. I had to press the start/stop button to get the car back on. Only about 60 miles on the clock at the time.

Absolutely..my X3 starts with a very noticeable action, not at all seamless but being a diesel wouldnt help in that regard. Hoping my GLC will be much less obvious.
