Voice button on GLC300
Hi guys,
Just picked up my new 2017 GLC300 premium pkg 1 with moonroof. Very happy with my buy to date and I have to say I love these forums as they answer everything the manuals don't
I've been playing around with my phone connection (Tel and Audio) on Bluetooth and USB. I've been primarily interested in getting my apps (primarily google maps) working and paired with the car.
I think I have have worked out how things work over the speaker system on USB and Bluetooth (can be a bit clunky if playing your own media vs listening to the radio etc to get directions... but my questions is as follows ..
For using the telephone or SIRI on my iPhone it appears the voice button on the steering wheel does nothing unless you have sat nav installed? When I press the button it highlights that navigation is not installed but I'm really hoping that a car of this calibre (and price ) has 'all' functions disabled for this button that would cannot ask it anything for the phone OR for other commands?
I have a 3 year old Ford Focus that's cost me 16k that's has the ability to 'ask' or say commands? Am I missing something in a setting or is that how it really is ?

Do I understand this correctly, you didn't order the functionality but are now complaining that your 16K Ford Focus has it as standard? Yes unfortunately the full Command (Online) package really is worth it. The maps are up-to-date, traffic information is great, it is fully integrated with linguatronic full version, and satnav, and the multiple displays in the car.
Without it you just won't get the same experience. Best thing to do now as you don't have it, is just play your own phone media and use its voice control on your phone (Ok Google, Hey Siri, Cortana) to control it and let your phone do the sound mixing.

Thanks for the info guys. I am just a bit surprised that the functionality is not there for basic items (or functions) I do have on my car. I.e. Switch to radio, or Media or call someone. Most cars I've driven (I've rented many) have this ability without navigation installed.
As you say I can work the functions through SIRI, just surprised some of them are not avail through the voice button.

All of those functions are available with the full version of linguatronic. I'm sorry to say that commands like Call Name or Radio or even name the radio station all work well. And yes I agree the basic system is rather basic.

Voice button and nav. sd card
I have the 2017 U.S. model, with premium pkg 1., sunroof and pre-wiring for nav. If you don't have the SD navigation card installed, as you pointed out, the button does nothing. Once you have installed the SD nav card, the voice button becomes active but only for navigational matters. That is, you can use it to say, "Navigate Home", and other such nav. things, but not for phone functions. I had the car a few weeks before I purchased the navigation card, and now having driven it for a month with the navigation, I do think it is worth it. I believe the list price on the SD card was $650 + and I negotiated with the parts department to get it for just over $500, I believe. It's expensive and it may have been best to try to negotiate it when buying the car, but it is still much cheaper than paying for the whole command package. But again, I recommend buying it, as it does integrate well with the car and the navigation does have live traffic through Sirius.
As others have pointed out, I'm sure having the full functionality of the command system would be nice, but we all have our own budgets.
And off topic a bit, the more we drive this car, the more we love how it handles. We are very pleased.

Zing, great post ! Sums/ clears up everything for me. You have left me in a dilemma now whether to buy the card or not �� I do see them on eBay for ~$300 and some posts about them. If they do work that makes it a great option... I'll need to do some more digging! Thanks again!

I saw them too on ebay but I think you should be careful. These SD cards are made to pair with one car and I believe they can't be easily transferred (although I'm not an expert). I would recommend calling a few MB parts departments and seeing what the best deal you can get is. I called my salesperson first and asked if discount was possible since I had just purchased the car. Then, when I went to the service desk, I nicely kept asking if that was the best price they could get me. He went back to a manager and asked, etc., and price came down a few times. I'm not sure ebay is worth the risk to save $200. You'll want the newest version and you'll want the live traffic through Sirius so you want to make sure you get the real deal and that it works perfectly - because it does integrate with the car very nicely. I don't know if a bad sd card could screw up the system and since I'm not a computer person, I didn't want to take the risk in the chance it did and invalidated the warranty. Just my two cents. Thanks..currently doing my due diligence at the Mo ��. I am fairly tech savvy and understand all the nuances of this ... I'll take my time before I jump in with both feet. You mention the live updates through Sirius .. is that the only way you get the live updates or are there other options/ways available to do that?

Just wanted the finish off this thread by saying I did go ahead and order the latest SD card map through eBay. Got the card for $155 and it works perfectly. Probably one of the Best Buy's I've ever done!

Hi there. I used a seller in UK (better pricing due to $ to U.K. Pound) the Name of the seller is 'Satnavdirect' . Took about 8 days to arrive (they provide all tracking details.) listing info was :
