Dealership arrival information?

Hello all,
I just got an email from my salesman about the delivery/arrival of my GLC
and I had a question for those of you who have taken delivery already.
In his "system", my GLC was scheduled to arrive on the 10th(docked in LA,
950 miles from the dealership, on the 2nd)of January at the dealership.
I found this out on the 8th when we were communicating about the Purchase Order for my bank.
At the time he said he doubted the car had even been loaded on a truck yet.
Now I know there is a customs clearance timeline and a transport timeline,
and even the weather delay because of the storms in Northern California(on
it's way to Oregon), but to tell me that he doubts any updates to delivery
information would be accurate and he will "let me know when it comes in",
well....needless to say, that was not the answer I was interested in hearing.
Modern trucking in some cases is now tracked by satellite, and I find it
hard to believe that MB doesn't know EXACTLY where each one of it's
cars out for delivery is.
My question is what level of delivery date accuracy did any of you experience through your dealership?
BTW this GLC was ordered on Aug 25th, so to get down to the scheduled delivery date and then be
told "I'll let you know"....

My estimate of the eventual delivery date was *WAY* better than M-B's estimate. Their system is not that great at tracking and putting firm dates on key points of the delivery process.

I went through this when we ordered our C450. There is no realtime tracking system for truck transport. The situation is even worse for rail, it just disappears.

You can track the ocean freight but that is it. I'm pretty sure all the German made cars are shipped to Longbeach and then they truck them to Pacific NW. Once it clears customs it should his Oregon in <72 hours. Your dealer will probably want an additional day for dealer prep.
