375GBP for a Puncture
375GBP for a Puncture
Hope you guys never pick up a puncture. My GLC hasn't covered 2,000 yet and got a puncture last night. Can't repair, they say so £375 for a new 20".
As they say down here, pay up and smile. Never wanted bloody run flats in the first place.

So few understand you can have a tire shaved (even tire rack performs this service) its a no brainer for all wheel drive cars.

Actually, that's very interesting because the deflated tyre doesn't look run flat, the rim isn't far from the floor. But the nice man at the MB dealer when I picked it up said it was. Besides there was no inflator in the boot. The sidewall says Pirelli Scorpion Verde 225/45 R20 101W. So until tomorrow still confused.

So how do I/you know whether it's a runflat. There is a tyre available with the same designation that isn't RF. The rim is sitting on my garage floor, separated by a thickness of rubber, that's all. I'll speak to Pirelli tomorrow.

I have Verdes in the US that are runflats. If you do not have a spare or inflater with goo. I am sure it it is a runflats.

But what markings do I need to see on the sidewall.? The deflated pattern doesn't look anything like a runflat. And I've driven home on it. At handover they opened the boot and I said where's the compressor. They said you haven't got one, you've got runflats.
So, urgently please, what marks on the sidewall identify a runflat? Please guys.

5 secs on google found this...

If that's your tyre it should be obvious.
From how it sits with no pressure it should also be clear...

Same run flats here in Oz. All GLC wagons here come with run flats, no goo, no compressor and no jack kit. Same for all 220 and 250 petrol & diesel.
Only new GLC Coupe have standard tyres, currently Michelin, those cars have goo and compressor only.
Price has reduced from Au $770 to Au $503 for Pirelli Scoprpion Verde run flats, not sure of currency conversion.
I understand you can fit standard tyres to the rims and not runflats, but you will need to buy goo and compressor.BUT be wary, check your country road regulations and car insurance clauses, you could invalidate your roadworthy compliance or worse invalidate your car insurance without something in writing from your insurer confirming ok to change from runflats to conventional tyres.
Good luck.

Thanks for all your help, guys. The tyres are not labelled with 'run flat' or RFT. I'm going quiet for a while and will open up again to let you know the outcome. When it, er, comes out.
In the meantime, many many thanks.

So I've been in touch with the AD who I bought the car from. They agreed that they told me the tyres were run flat but told me where to look for the goo/inflator - and there it was. So the lack of RFT designation on the sidewall finally confirmed it. We had a 'few words' but they have arranged for the car to be picked up, taken to the nearest AD who will repair - probably not- or replace at their cost.
So after remarking on how well my GLC rides on 20" run flats I now know it is riding on goos. Thanks for all the help I've had on this forum, it appears I wasn't the only one confused. Check your markings so you won't drive on the rim when that puncture happens.

USA GLC non-coupe here, I have regular Good Year Eagles on mine. If you are leasing, take those run-flats off and return them with the car when the lease is done. You can choose quieter, better gripping, better wearing tires to drive on for a few years and you won't have to buy new RFTs when your lease is over. With our last lease, treadwear got to around 3/10 and we were forced to put on new dealer approved run flats when we returned the car. Of course, the dealer does not approve any economy line run flats.
You're probably right now. The man from the AD told me that the first GLCs came with runflats but now they've moved to goos. Update, car went away today (Wed) but there won't be a new fitment available until Friday. Car off Road min 3 days due to a puncture! I don't think MB really care.

Before I bought the car I checked on Tire Rack to see the cost of the replacement tires. I was surprised to see that Tire Rack had NO tires for the car.
I then called the parts department at my local dealer and they said they had plenty in the MB parts warehouse and could get them within a couple of days.
After seeing that a replacement OEM tire was going to have to come from the dealership I bought the Wheel and Tire Protection Plus warranty for $1895. It is good for 5 years.
