WAZE through Bluetooth

WAZE through Bluetooth
Has anyone using Waze on Iphone had success with Bluetooth? If I connect my phone as a bluetooth device it wants to play music. If I pause the music I get bluetooth device paused so no Waze. Second I try via USB cable and set the iphone as a device. Here I have some success, once again it plays a song from my phone, I can pause the song yet still be connected and Waze will play via the car speakers. However if I switch to radio or anything else I lose Waze again.

Waze works when playing music from the phone. The phone will mix in the guidance instructions. The Command system will be tuned to Bluetooth and this play them. If you switch to the radio input you don't get Bluetooth 
you get the radio.
There may may be a setting in Waze that it can issue its guidance instructions like it was a phone call and thus interrupt whatever command is tuned into. In my experience it is flaky and often the instructions are too late or cut off due to the time it takes to switch.
Integrated satnav provides the the greatest flexibility to me.
