Question How much do you trust & rely on Steering Assist?

So as we eagerly sit awaiting our Euro delivery car (arrived Port of Long Beach the 9th of April, and Vehicle Prep Center the 13th of April), a question occurred to me:

How much do you trust & rely on Steering Assist?

When we picked up our car at the factory just outside Stuttgart (Sindelfingen) and drove the 400mi (655 km) to Hamburg, I gained a lot of confidence in the system VERY quickly, often letting it manage stretches of autobahn up to 180 km/h (110 mph). I found it extremely composed and very confidence inspiring.

Anybody else rely on it daly, as a matter of course? Or rather more as a novelty?

Hm, I think this is a good post for a poll, actually....

I use it in conjunction with the Distronic Plus in highways while cruising... I do not use it as an autonomous driving feature... Just as an assist. And that is the trust I give it. I will not put on a blindfold...

Isn't there a ~10 second limit after which you either have to hold the steering wheel or SA will disengage with a warning ding? That's how it works on my C300.

Yep, above ~20mph it will beep at you and eventually turn off if you don't provide some steering feedback.

However, below that, it doesn't require you to hold/move the steering wheel. So when I use it the most is in stop and go traffic. Just set the Distronic Plus and relax. Still need to pay attention, but watching the car inch its way closer to open highway is a great feeling and reduces overall fatigue.

Same here. I find it very reliable under 25 mph. However, in some curves (at higher speed) it tends to go over the lane markings into the next lane or off the road. Not very reliable. As stated in the manual: it is an aid rather than autonomous driving.

Agreed, I didn't mean to suggest I trust it fully in the sense of, say, Tesla's Autopilot; I meant that I trust it as a nice support feature which just reduces the monotony of bumper-to-bumper and also brain numbing long-distance freeway driving.

Hopefully it works as well here in California with our woefully abysmal lane markings as it did on Germany's pristine roads.

If I'm traveling down a divided four-lane in the right lane (dashed white line to the left, solid white line to the right) and a turn lane begins (solid white line expands out to the right), SA will invariably follow the solid line and try to pull me into the turn lane.

The manual does state that:
The system may be impaired or may not function if:
[...]
* there are no, several or unclear lane markings for a lane, e.g. in areas with road construction work
[...]
* the lane markings change quickly, e.g. lanes branch off, cross one another or merge
In my area, we have many rural divided four-lane highways that are not limited-access (i.e., there are many turn lanes), making SA mildly annoying to use, at times.
