2017 vs 2018

I have 2017 coming to me at the end of the month. Unfortunately I got convinced (suckered?) into getting a 2017 with illuminated star (not a big fan) and burmester. But with 2018 production only 2 months away, should I just wait? I can obviously get a 2018 with features I want and it might cover the spread for new year upgrade prices. Would love to hear from anyone struggling with the same dilemma?

The burmester is a must have. The star is fine. Is the rest of the options on the car up to your liking. If they are not, then order an 18.

Would have thought it would be much later in the year when the 2018 models will be at dealers.

I keep thinking August and it is what I am planning, but every time I speak with my Rep he is confident that July will be more likely.

Always a tough call. Keep in mind you'll have a one year older car than if you wait a bit. Might be an issue when you sell it... one more year older vehicle.
Still, you'll miss out on having the new ride for at least a few months.

If you get the car now you will have it for 8 months in the year of manufacture, if you wait it will be less, they will still both be 2017 year when you sell it.

Isn't the 2018 will be sold as 2018 even though its manufactured in 2017... I'm pretty sure that's how its done in the US. And that's a very compelling reason for me to pass on the 2017.

It will be an 18 model even though it was built in 17.

There is the benefit that a late 2017 may appear to have lower mileage than an early 2017.....and the reverse may hold true for the 18. I would get the 18 if it meant getting what I want, but know that a few of the new options are not available right away. I know the Advanced Lighting package would have caused my order to be delayed.

it depends on what you want really.

do you want a car 100% exactly like you want, but have a delay of however many months? production may start in 2 months, but i guarantee it will be more then a 2 month wait for your car.

or do you want a car 90% what you want, but get it in 2 weeks.

do you know what design changes there are for 2018? the options and packages offered yet? those things always change from year to year.

Hey VET11B, out of curiosity where did you get the information on the delay for the Advanced Lighting Package? I'm only curious as when I had ordered my 2018 (granted this was a month ago) the only delayed option on the ordering guide was the smart phone integration.

My order was placed 4/21 -- maybe I'll check back in with my rep to see if he had heard anything about that. I guess it doesn't really matter since the package is a must have for me (personally) so if it means waiting longer... This past month has already been a slow death haha

The wait is killing me too, but that will make it that much sweeter once it arrives.

From the order guide, it seems there are only minor changes. Would have to work with the dealer to see how the 2018 prices.

But you are correct, wait 2 weeks or 3+ months that seems to be the real question

Have you received pricing for MY18's options? They've changed quite a bit. Unlike MY17 the adaptive headlights are not bundled in with a bunch of other "stuff". It will likely be quite a bit less of a premium and well worth the increase over the normal LEDs.

How important is lighting to you? The Advanced Lighting Package (I think that's what it's called) was a no brainer for me. I'm obsessed with lighting. And with this having both the full LED headlights (which I've always had in my cars) with adaptive capabilities and high beam control plus this including the interior ambient lighting.... definitely worth it for me, and I'm very happy they packaged it this way for 2018 since I do not want the drivers assist options.

The 2018 will have CarPlay. I wish I had it.

As an option -- and not if you get the Multimedia Package -- which I think is odd. I opted for the multimedia package on my order since I'd rather have the larger screen and command so my '18 won't have CarPlay

Help me out here. The main reason people are excited about carplay is that you can load google maps on the screen, right? The other apps that are carplay-enabled don't really benefit you much since you won't be using them in the car. Texting, really? c'mon.

Anyway, I am a big proponent of using a magnetic phone holder on the vent and have zero issues doing this while using waze/gmaps/etc. Why would I want carplay??

Simply because CarPlay/Android Auto is way easier to use than the clusterf*** known as COMAND.

COMAND's maps can get outdated too, and not every MB dealer is willing to update it (even if you've got complimentary map updates for 3 years).

I must admit I'm surprised at how big of a discussion this whole Apple CarPlay / Android Auto discussion has become across multiple threads. Seems you either love it or don't care for it. With MB not offering it with the mutipmedia package and the larger screen, it's a no brainer for me to not get the smart phone integration package.
