I am about to order a 2018 GLC and wondered how good the AWD is. I have a Volvo xc70 now and it performs very well with all season tires and have never needed to use chains. I live in so cal but have a place in the mountains.
we got a lot of snow here this year, and with all season run flat tires i had 0 issues. i even parked in a snowbank that had i would say about 7-8 inches deep snow. no issues getting in or getting our of it. granted i do have 4MATIC.
i am quite happy with the snow performance. much better then my SL. haha. didn't even bother trying that out.
Well the GLC43 has 31:69 permanent torque distribution so a bit more tail-happy but shouldn't be an issue regardless. The regular GLCs have 44:55 distribution, which is the same as on my E-Class and I've never had issues with that car on all-seasons driving through at least 3 winters and even a couple snowstorms. I think you'll be fine.
Test drove a GLC to check the winter-capabilities this winter. Studies Continental Viking Contact 6 works magic on the GLC. Never saw the ESP flash once, on the 500m climb up to my inlaws cabin.
If it wasn't for the Norwegian winter, I'd go C-class instead, but they don't come as hybrid with 4matic yet :'
I have a 2018 GLE350 and live near Chicago. It works great in the snow. I bought Nokian snow tires which are second to none but I'm not going to mount them this Winter because it goes just fine with the OEM tires. That said, I had a GLE43 and it wasn't as good in the snow because of the summer tires.
