Interim Important Safety Recall

In today's mail I received an M-B Interim Important Safety Recall

It affects certain model year (my) 16-17 GLC vehicles.

In addition, it affects certain my 15-17 CLA Class, my 15-17 C Class, my 17 GLA Class and my 17 E Class vehicles.

The concern is, should an engine failure occur wherein the engine will not turn over, e.g., hydro locked. And repeated attempts are made to start the engine. High electrical current can flow through the starter circuit overheating the starter current limiter. This in turn could cause nearby components to melt and potentially create the risk of fire.

The letter goes on to say, parts are not yet available. But when they are we will get a second letter advising us to schedule an appointment with our friendly M-B dealer for resolution.

Rest easy M-B drivers, the NTSB is involved, so this will be resolved much faster than our noisy brakes.

So, if your hauling *** down the backstretch at VIR and your engine sizes, for God sake don't try to restart. My attempt at levity.

A gaggle of MB's
Actually - when it is all said and done - it is a bolt-in-plug-n-play relay/safety-resistor that replaces the existing unit near positive side of the battery - with "the part" it literally is a 5 minute swap-out.

I got my letter in March, and the dealer still does not have the parts, and they have no idea when they will be available.

Call your stealer. They probably have them and have not bothered to call you. My dealer is generally real good but in this case I had threaten them with zeros on my reviews and out of no wear my brakes appeared!

Amazing what a phone call will do. I take it in Tuesday for the new brakes and a map update. They are putting off another customer for a week. I didn't even threaten or raise my voice.

i had this happen to me, for the first time today. wouldn't start with the push button. i tried it 4 times but didn't want to try it more then that. but it worked when turning the key.

my question is, why the hell wouldn't the thing turn over? its a brand new f---ing car.
