Would you consider an "exec" driven car?

Hello everyone!

So I have the option to buy a car at 15% off of MSRP -- car is a 2017 model, however already have close to 9000 miles on it! (a 2017 GLC)

They're selling it as a "new car" as it was never sold -- just driven around (apparently a lot!) by some fancy executives.

Anyway -- would you consider buying a "new" car like this? If yes, what is the discount you'd expect considering the number of miles on it?

Thanks!

I did this in 1995 with a 5 series BMW. It had 7500 miles on it. Driven by regional exec for BMW. Car was 40,000. Got it for 28,000.

I personally wouldn't consider any issues. No different than an other car driven 9k miles in my opinion. For value maybe kbb? Based on when I shopped 15 percent of msrp would have been huge but some people on this forum seem to be getting double digits so I guess it depends on the area you are in and what prices you areas seeing for brand new

A couple of things I would consider:

- does "selling as new" mean it comes with the full factory warranty? That's worth something, compared to a similar used model with less Warranty.
- as ajmtbm says, does the 15% off get it close to a KBB type price?
- perhaps most important, you really need to know what you could get a brand new one for. You obviously can't order a '17 now, so you're limited to what's sitting around. Folks on this forum report Nothing off to 5 or 10% or even a little more. If you get 5% more off (15% vs 10%) you're saving $2,500 on a $50,000 car. I'd ask for 20% off!

Dieseldoc got 30% on his BMW. That made it kind of a no Brainer!

It's a used car.
It doesn't matter what they are marketing it to you as, it's still a used car.
It's got 9000 miles on it. They can ensconce it in velvet and sprinkle it with fairy dust, it will still be a used car.
Used cars immediately depreciate 10-20% as soon as they sold.

A fair deal would be 20% off of MSRP plus full CPO warranty.

15% is not a good deal. If GLCs were just a little more common 15% would be a rip-off.

Walk away from this deal.

I special ordered a fully loaded GLC43 and paid 4% under MSRP. A GLC300 is much more common. A brand new 2017 should be easy to get 10% off MSRP. The discount for a new 2018 GLC300 will be a little less generous. 8% below MSRP would be a good target. Over 5% off is still a good deal.

A gaggle of MB's
Interesting comments so far.... let me address your question:

1. "Brass Hat" MB's are those that have been driven under manufacturer's plates - which does not require the rig to be "registered" - this can be the case for Mercedes upper/upper executives - test vehicles - special exhibition vehicles - etc.

2. Your focus should be "in-service" date - since that is the start date for the new car warranty

3. Sold as a "new car" - which qualifies for new car finance - or new car lease - you have the balance of the 4yr/50K new car warranty

4. The dealer - by absorbing the CPO cost - can also technically sell it as CPO - which gets you 5yrs from date-in-service if under 50K miles - and/or 1yr additional from the time it passed 50K miles - kindof goofy but that's the specifics

5. What is the best "application" for Bradd Hat ? For a owner to get more features than he would get if he bought a new GLC - and/or to take advantage of new car finance rates and/or LEVERAGE a lease as a new car - where that 15% off works to bring your payment down like you were throwing that much in cash at the lease

Keep the beat !

Much more frequently these are service loaners that are ridden hard and put away wet.

Negotiated a deal for a friend a few months ago on a BMW 520d M sport touring with extras, list price £44500, got it for £32000, 10 weeks old with 600 miles on clock, have done it many times with BMW but more difficult with MB.
