The "pull stalk to flash" maneuver is actually the only direct control you have over the high beams with the ILS: when you push it away from you, you select auto-dimming, and the GLC decides when you get high beams and when you don't. (At least in auto mode; I've not tried it with the switch set to "on.")

Yeah, that is what I was told to do when I picked up my car. Same for wipers, but I did turn those off when I went to Mr Wash in Stuttgart (http://www.mrwash.de/) an amazing high tech car wash.
