Just got delivery of 2018 glc 300, I replaced the star with the illuminated star ordered and installed by mercedes. My problem is mercedes will not modify the star to light up at night while driving. Star only comes on when in park. I spent way too much money ($1200 CAD purchase/installation) to only have it light up when parked, it defeats the purpose. I have a non mercedes certified mechanic who’s willing to run a line from the star to inside the glc and use a switch that I can control to put on & off as needed or slice existing line to come on/off when headlight goes on ( which I don’t want to do because it may cause mechanical problems). Is there a better/easier solution to this problem that will not interfere with warranty. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

See if they have another on the lot so you can compare. Lighting rules in Canada can be different than the US. In any event you should be able to tell from sales info whether it should be on all the time. If this is some misunderstanding by the dealer, you can request a discussion with the zone manager to resolve. Last resort might be to demand they remove it since you didn't get what you expected.

mikbar2- did you buy your star then had the dealership install or was it a feature already on your glc

Flubadub- I live in Ontario, it is legal. My Glc came with original star, I then purchased the illuminated star from mercedes & had them install. They say that mercedes prevents them from connecting to engine/headlights so that it will come on once engine starts, they can only connect it to come on once parked. I will be calling head office to see how they can rectify this problem.

If you go to the MB Canada website, you will not find it listed as an option from the factory. Got no idea why. It is prominently displayed on the USA site.

i happened to be in front of an illuminated star GLC the other day (US model)
it appeared that when the car was stopped or moving slowly the star was on, then turned off at higher speed.
perhaps it was lit when the brake was on?
