Steering system whining when turning
Hello all. My wife, in her RWD 2017 GLC 300 informed me of a whining noise when she turns the steering wheel in either direction. She didn't test from full stop, but it appears that she hears it all speeds. It was loud enough that I could hear it in the background over the phone, and it seemed to have a higher pitched sound than one would think to be typical of power steering groaning or pump cavitation. The steering column module recall has just been complied with. I'm out of town for work, so I haven't been able to test myself. I instructed her to take it straight to the dealer and left a message with them to schedule service. In the meantime, I thought I'd seek any technical advise, along with any owner experience information. Thanks!!

Some people, including a certain wife I know, like to turn the steering wheel when the car is motionless, and cannot be convinced that this should be avoided. It is hard on the vehicle as well as the tires, and many vehicles make some noise in complaint. Maybe this is what is happening. I'm luckily at the point of high-frequency hearing loss (one advantage of decrepitude) that many of these annoying sounds have disappeared for me

First check the PAS fluid .If you have a fluid leak air will be in the system .
No leak then i would do a PAS fluid change along with a new filter.
They will self bleed if the front wheels are turned to full lock a few times not reaching the end stops , and not stopping from lock to lock .
If you do this i would find a sandy part on the road to help the tyres to move without to much friction .
But if its due in the dealers then they will sort it out, i am sure.
