Anyone else struggled between black or white paint? Normally we buy white cars but for some reason the black hides the plastic trim better. Anyone else struggled with this decision and what was your determining factor? Is black really less safe?
No struggle here. Black sucks because it shows every tiny blemish and speck of dirt. White sucks less than black but it is boring and only good if you live in the desert and want to reduce heating from the sun.
I went with standard black, it does look dirty pretty much all the time but I still prefer it over most cars in standard white.
Have you seen Selenite grey in the flesh? It's rare but looks beautiful and is a nice change away from the normal MB grey/black/white without being flashy

agreed. i have the selenite and not bad for showing dirt. also close to color of the plastic trim so you barely notice it.
I am leaning towards white which is our current built. However black sure looks more upscale and more "complete" somehow. Especially with the standard 18" wheel. The white seems to be missing something. I toying with the idea of running board and front chrome trim. Can't find the whole package together in picture online. Also black is apparently 47% more likely to be involved in accident, and it is measurably hotter under the sun and more difficult to cool down. We live in California sun so that is a factor too.

black is probably one of the nicest color by far in any vehicle.
but keeping it clean is awful.

I agree. I've always driven white when I could, primarily for visibility but, much to my chagrin, ended up with black this time because it was the only car around with HUD and other goodies I wanted. I run all lit up on all but the brightest days. The article you may have got the 47% figure from (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...accidents.html) is based on an Australian study that also reported "Grey and silver cars were the next most risky, followed by red and blue ... and white, gold and yellow to be the safest." Doesn't give the visibility conscious GLC-buyer much choice, does it?
One option for you might be the designo Diamond White Metallic if you can see paying another $1500 for a paint job. I've had metallic whites on some previous cars and it is really nice, transforming the look of the car while still retaining its visibility.
The selenite color would be a nice compromise/middle ground. That said, black always reels me in as it looks the best when clean...but it's a constant battle to keep that clean look. I didn't consider white, but the GLC looks pretty good in white with the contrasting black.
Try the diamond white. Irridecense changes with the light. We ended up with the Selenite Grey. Not a diamond white car on the west coast at the time we purchased.
I love my selenite gray. I was strongly considering white with the Sport+Night package ... that looks super (I attached a google image below) ... to me the black window trim speaks/relates to the black wheel trim, so in this case it looks much better.
I had a black 2011 GLK (black interior) which looked great when clean but after several black vehicles before the GLK, I then went to diamond white for my E63 wagon (silk beige interior) and SLK (red interior) - wonderful colour in the sun. My 2018 GLC43 is diamond white as well. I think it looks very sharp but obviously shows the dirt - particularly in winter in the north.
I went with black.
I've had several dark but not black cars and they all show dirt the same. Espresso brown, dark forest green, etc.. There's nothing in particular about black vs other darks.
Lighter colors blend in with dust better, but TBH I still see it on white cars rather obviously.
If you care, you're going to maintain & detail your car regularly no matter the color, so get what you want.

got my wife white for that reason, as my C300 Obsidian Black need wash 3 times a week.
I went with the regular black. Looks stunning when clean and eventhough I park outside in a covered carport, a quick wipe down with a microfiber car takes 2-3 minutes
Black is nice but we went with white because it also looks good, is easier to keep clean and is cooler in the summer. Some vehicles (eg. C7 corvette, Porsche Macan, etc.) look much better in black due to the abundance and location of black trim elements but I didn't feel the GLC was one of them. The greys, charcoals and silvers are nice too but I prefer black or white and I'm tired of silver/grey after having several of them.
I love my white with the Night package and dark rims. Benz' look good in black, but only when its clean and hand washer...my uncle has a black Range Rover, it has swirls all over.
We were leaning white and then I finally noticed the plastic wheel arch trim, and white was dead to me. I'm not sure how I missed seeing it the first few times, WHY do manufacturers put that crap on there? I was really pushing for Brown, but we decided on Grey, which downplays the plastic nicely. We took delivery last week, and it looks amazing! We also plan to heavily tint the windows, and so we were not fans of black as it might appear a bit "murdered out" with too much dark. I really enjoy washing and waxing so the upkeep of black was not too intimidating, more the overall aesthetic once we get the tint complete.
I went with white but saw black on black yesterday and was sorry I didn't get it. Does your dealer do free carwashes? Mine does. Even if the paint is forgiving, the wheels get dirty.
How about Iridium? It's an excellent color: doesn't show dirt and grime as much.....AND is a great resale color. GL.
I have the GL:C300 in Iridium silver which I find less sparkly than the other silver colour and it really hides winter grime well. It's almost a pale grey shade in shade and silver in sunlight. I chose the night trim to contrast the pale paint colour.
It all comes down to personal taste. The contrast between white paint and dark tints looks great, especially with the pano roof. Also, if you’re looking at a 2018, the white contrasts nicely with the black emblems. The drawback to white- it is a flavor of the month color amongst all makes and models, and there are countless small white suvs on the road
