Event Data Recorder (EDR) and Crash Data Retrieval (CDR)

Hello,

Does any one have any experience with / more information about EDR and CDR, e.g. has purchased hardware/software to read and examine vehicle data?
(see snapshot about this from the GLC 2018 Operator's Manual).

Thanks!

Not a huge insight, but EDR systems have been in cars since the first day of airbags, that's been something that came along for the ride. They have very likely gotten MUCH more sophisticated, but it's not anything new. Original intent was to be a sanity check for deployment of airbags. In the early 2000's the NHTSA standardized them versus manufacture specific. Overall their intent is to improve safety, but they can be subpoena'd if there is question of guilt.
