Don't know if this is related, but for years now IOS has had a setting in bluetooth... when in the car and connected, go to settings, bluetooth and tap the i for your car. In the subsequent page there should be a forward notification on/off toggle. If it's off, you won't get any texts delivered to the car. Hope that it's that simple. Cheers

i have an android and lose text messages once in a while. deleting the phone and then reconnecting usually clears this up, may be worth a shot

+1 Thanks Peet! I don't drive enough to really notice a problem, but I realize I haven't received the icon in a couple of weeks. Sure enough, the notifications had toggled off on all my car bluetooth settings after updating.
Another helpful tactic is to delete old message strings periodically and then re-sync to make the deletions permanent. Subaru and Toyota systems are particularly troublesome if your phone has a lot of messages stored. Maybe not a prob with MB.

@mtberman great point! In fact to take it up a notch - if you aren't using iCloud messages and are (obviously) on iOS - do so. Then your huge library of messages sits in the cloud, versus your phone and won't sync down to the car. As a bonus, if you have multiple devices, you have the exact same view of messages on all your devices. I have 2 macs, 2 ipads and an iPhone, so having that sync'd is key for me. Also happy this is helping.
