Hey everyone. We picked up a new GLC 300 this weekend. We went with the lower radio unit to upgrade to a AWD vehicle. We were able to connect to carplay easy enough, but my question is. Can we buy a SD Card that will install navigation in the car vs. using our Iphone? Also when we try and use the voice to make a phone call it has a popup saying no navigation installed and will not call. I'm wondering if we purchased the navigation SD card if it would allow us to make phone calls through voice?

The answer to the first question is "yes, you can". You have to be a little careful as there are a few versions, I got mine on amazon and it works just fine. I can dig out a link if you like.
That being said, CarPlay takes a little getting used to and you may/will have to fiddle with settings to get it to work for you. When you hit the voice button and do something like "call Jennifer" or "navigate to 100 main street" then you should get a clear siri response, if you don't, then CarPlay, for whatever reason, is not connected. Or maybe you need to look at your siri settings. Personally I find the iPhone map superior to the one you can plug in the SD slot, but it is nice to have for when you are stuck with-out cell coverage.

1st: Well... don't say thanks just yet.... there are two different "updated" SD cards - when I say two - I mean there is one updated card for 2018's "built" up thru August 2017 - and a 2nd/different updated Nav version for 2018's built after Aug 2017.
This is the V9 (not V6 card from the previous post) for post-Aug-2017 built 2018 GLC's - You can message the Seller to confirm correct UPDATED CARD for your MB - thru Aug 2017 builds have Updated V8 available:

Has to be plugged in via the dedicated USB connector for CarPlay to work. There is a protocol for cordless CarPlay but I don't know of any manufacturer that has implemented it.
While I agree that plugging the phone in every time is a great big PITA, I still do it as I like the apple maps. The traffic updates are at least as good as Waze but without burning up your phone.

I do plug my phone in every time I get in the car, except for the shortest of trips. I have a short Lightning cable and a dedicated spot in the center console. Apple Car Play is just too good not to use it.

I leave my cable plugged in the Usb inside the storage under my armrest. The cable protrudes thru the small space between the two panels on top. Then i just enter the protruding cable to my iphone each time i enter. It is very easy. You can do it with one hand.

I'm wondering if there is a big difference between the Navigation SD card V8.2 vs the latest version of 9.0? There's about a $50.00 price spread between the two. If the 9.0 has a better format then I don't mind spending the extra money, but if it's just a few extra streets added, then I don't want to waste my money. Being from Oklahoma, we don't have a lot of new streets added here. My GLC was built in Feb, 2018
