OK, I bought the cheap one off of eBay(from newbdeals). Yes, I bought the cheap one was mainly because I will be using the car play most of the time and if it doesn't work I would be out $85 only. The one I bought is V9 but I believe V10 is the newest one. The SD card just arrived and it worked like a charm. No additional equipment or dealer add-on was needed for the GPS to work. However I want to note that it will only work for GLC built after 8/2017. Since my GLC did not have navigation built in, my screen is 1 inch smaller and missing out on the touch pad but that is about it. All the functionality can be accessed via the scrolling wheel.
If you connect it on a PC using the update service program, it will update to v10. Probably minimal difference, but worth it as you only have I think 60 days to get the latest maps.
I got the same v9 SD card from eBay for only $39.99 delivered. Worked as advertised. The 60 day window for map upgrades is from when you first install the card.
I attempted the download to v11 but my slow internet connection was going to take over 24 hours to download the 20+ gigabytes. My son got it done for me.
It is v11 and works like it should.

Newbdeals is still selling SD cards on eBay. He was kind enough to respond to my inquiry with the correct part number for the SD matching my car even though he did not have any to sell. I ended up purchasing the SD card(Part Number: A2189068403 and Version 14.0 (Map 14.0) 2020) from juliagps ($39.49+tax). The SD appears to be new and is working just fine.
I'm gathering that the methods for manually downloading map updates no longer works, perhaps because Mercedes has shifted to automatic downloads of map updates? But I'd be happy to find out that I am wrong.
For old SD Navi, you need to buy new or updated SD card, from eBay for example. I have one old SD and seller updated me every year for 20 EUR. Now i have 2022 map.
i read the install directions for the garmin mapoint. it says with vehicle off, remove old sd card and replace with new updated version. what if you do not have a sd card is the card slot? i got a 2017 glc 300 with original mappoint that came with the car. there is no sd card in the console sd card slot. how would you update? read somewhere the nav might be integrated within the car computer hard drive....
