Cross Shopping X3

Cross Shopping X3
Anyone cross shop the new BMW X3 and ultimately decide to buy a GLC 300? I have driven both multiple times. The way I see it is the X3 is more fun to drive and has a more modern infotainment system. The GLC 300 is nicer looking and more comfortable.

We chose GLC for the comfortable higher ride. No SUV is "fun" to drive imho. To me the down side of GLC is luggage space and leg rooms. Neither has good User interface I'm, the only thing that matters is Android Auto and Carplay. Audio20 was outdated long ago and the "updated" C class interface is already outdated. Today's I drive is next year's outdated interface.
X3 driver sits too low and I hate the look it already doesn't age well, and I am a die hard BMW fan. Always had a Bimmer in garage since 2008.

Thanks for your input. The X3 has a larger infotainment screen with more functionality. Plus you can have both navigation and Apple Carplay. The downside of the X3 are the hard seats and less than exciting exterior design.

After two prior BMWs, I was set on an X3 last summer. Unfortunately, BMW simply would not deal on them. Even the X1 was pricey. In frustration, I looked at a GLC and found a fantastic deal.
I think the GLC 300 feels less sporty than the BMW, but still very capable. I have come to love the heavy, smooth feel of the MB--especially in an SUV. The GLC feels more premium to me.
Very happy with my choice so far!

The problem with every BMW that I had was that you can never have a best possible seating position, I kept changing mine everyday. Also the seat, even at it's highest position, is very low. To me GLC looks way better and the whole seats/position is way better than X3.

Since you are on a Mercedes forum, you may want to pose the question on the BMW forum for a complete comparison...

2019 GLC300 4matic
Bought 2019 GLC300 4matic last fall. Wife rode in X3, Q5 and RDX and found the front passenger in the GLC the most comfortable. My vote was for the RDX - similar drive with more options for the money, but my vote didn't count. :-) I do enjoy driving the GLC coming from a 2005 Highland v6 AWD.

For me, the X3 unfortunately had a combination of suspension stiffness and wheelbase length that caused my inner ear to make me queasy after a short test drive. A shame, really, because I quite liked it otherwise, but this problem caused me to leave it off my shortlist.

I owned an X3 before purchasing a GLC 300 in 2017. You are correct that the X3 handles better than the GLC, but only marginally better in my opinion. Since purchasing the GLC I am surprised how much I like it compared to the X3. The ride is much smoother and the overall feel of the car is more solid and luxurious.

I really wanted the X3 in the first place. Unfortunately, I am a cyclist and use the vehicle for mountain biking trips, and a full sized mtn bike does not fit inside the X3. Also, I discovered that BMW does not permit you to order Harman Kardon sound unless you also purchase a $3000 plus package of other items, most of which I did't want.

Caught a piece on the evening news about testing of pedestrian auto-detect/auto-braking conducted by IIHS
https://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/Pe...ash-prevention
The X1 rated zero and they did not rate GLC (or X3).
Part of my reason for selecting GLC over X3 was that i just felt MB had more mature safety features than BMW at least for MY 2018.

Interesting to read a complaint about cargo space. I have both a GLC & RDX in my garage, and the GLC has more cargo space than the RDX which is one of the bigger crossovers on the market. The engineers did an amazing job with space on a small frame.

2017 GLE350 4MATIC
We are cross shopping the GLC and X3 now. Comments:
GLC300 4MATIC
+ three pointed star
+/- staid, refined appearance
+ smooth drivetrain and steering
- COMAND
X3 xDrive30
+ updated, more expressive appearance
+++ iDrive
We are shopping 2018 models, and the X3s on the market are better equipped than similarly priced GLCs, once M-B prepaid maintenance is factored in. The X3s we are looking at include the balance of Ultimate Care, the analogous service to M-B prepaid maintenance.
