Very disappointed with routes taken by SD navi card

Recently bought version 9 Garmin SD card on ebay. Updated it to version 11. Routes chosen are slower and more mileage. Two 135 mile round trips, Simsbury Ct - Bridgeport CT. I am very familiar with various routes and had been using a TomTom for years on these roads. I have GPS on just to entertain wife and let her see scheduled arrival time. GPS directed to get off limited access hwy at least once on all four trips. When I ignored the directions, the recalculated arrival times are Sooner. In some instances I had to drive past a few more recommended exits for the rerouting to show the quicker time. In one case it said it was avoiding an accident. I kept on the highway and ignored getting off at about 4 exits. Turns out there was a traffic backup due to an accident BUT the backup and accident were both on the opposite side of the parkway. Trips were not during rush hour.

I have the system set to "quickest route". Is there any other setting I may have overlooked?
As of now, anytime I go to Boston or NYC I will use my old TomTom.

Anyone experience similar issues?

Thank you

Personally I like using the Android Auto feature for navigation as it utilizes Google Maps which is constantly being updated and usually provides the best routing as opposed to Garmin that had disappointed me on countless occasions.

linus69,
Thanks for letting me know it's the MB/Garmin product and not this old operator.

Definitely not you Fred, Garmin has sent me on quite a few "wild goose chases" and Google maps hasn`t let me down as yet.

Was wondering the same thing. Weird routes provided by GLC Nav. No matter what we program in (fastest, shortest, no tolls, etc.).

We use Waze a lot now, but I’d sure rather just use the on-board system.

I've been thinking about upgrading my SD card (it's Ver. 5 from 2016). How did you upgrade the ver 9 card to ver 11?

I see the ver 9 cards all over Amazon, biut nothing about ver 11.

Thanks

I used the MB Download manager to get v 11. Here's a link to the page that has the app.

Thanks!

I was able to update the software to Ver. 11, but it says that my maps (Ver 5 from 2016) are up to date.

Does that sound right?

That is because you can update the SD card maps for just one time within 90 days of first install in the vehicle. Your only other option is to buy a new SD card from eBay and update it in MB Download Manager after first installing in your vehicle. There is lot of discussion on this in previous posts.

Another thing that may affect route time is if you still have the satellite subscription which ties into traffic. If it's expired (it disappears with the Sirius XM radio trial), the SD Nav won't be able to factor it in and just goes by distance.

It's not the same as the COMAND NAV which (at least with the 2016 GLC I had once) has 5 years of satellite data free, independent of your Siriux SM trial.

Just bought a 2018 GLC and the Nav is not the most intuitive, works, just takes a bit of effort compared to other brands. To the OP, I grew up in Simsbury, small world.
