I have the stock speaker system in my glc 300 and notice that sound doesn’t come out of the middle speaker in the dash, unless I’m on the phone with mercedes Concierge. Is that normal? A single use speaker just for sos and what not?
You are correct. Very weird setup indeed. I would guess it is for safety reasons because the wiring is better protected in case of accident? Just a guess.
Every other car I have had with that type of service uses a dedicated speaker and microphone and the volume controls bypass those of the head unit. That is likely what is happening here. I suspect in the Burmester setup that area has a regular speaker as well and what you are hearing is the speaker inside the dash that is separate.
