Cannot set tailgate height to the desired position

On 2020 GLC 300, I followed the manual to set the opening angel of the tailgate. But the opening height is much lower than what I set.

I need the tailgate opens lower because it would hit the garage door when fully opened. I would like to set it lower but taller than me so that would not hit my head. (I am 5'8'' tall)

For example, when set it to 25cm lower than it's end position (when it's fully open), it would open to about 40cm lower than it's end position, and that is too low.

Does anyone observe the same issue? Or it is an issue on my GLC? Appreciate any suggestions.

Here is from the manual of 2020 GLC:
Activating the opening angle limiter
You can limit the opening angle of the tailgate in the top half of its opening range to approximately 8 in (20 cm) before the end position.

# Stop the opening procedure of the tailgate at the desired position.
# Press and hold the closing button on the tailgate until you hear a short acoustic signal. The opening angle limiter will be activated. The tailgate will then stop in the stored position when opened.

I’m having the same issue. Either halfway or all the way up, and I too thought you could customize it.

Yup, exactly. It can only open up to half way like this if not fully open. I wonder if it is the same for model before facelift, like 2019 GLC.

Just tried this on my gle63 and it works as described... not exactly the same vehicle...

Those directions come from your user manual ?

Yes, the quotation is from my user manual 2020 GLC. As compare, I found the manual of your 2016 gle63 below. It says 4 inch vs 8 inch for GLC.

Activating You can limit the opening angle of the tailgate. This is possible in the top half of its opening range, up to approximately 4 in (10 cm) before the stop. This could be useful, for example, if there is insufficient space above the tailgate.
- To open the tailgate: pull the handle on the tailgate.
- To stop the opening procedure at the desired position: press the closing button (Y page 98) in the tailgate or pull the handle on the outside of the tailgate again.
- To store the position: press and hold the closing button in the tailgate until you hear a short tone. The opening angle limiter is activated. The tailgate will now

Also, I found a situation that the tailgate will open even higher than its normal full open height intermittently. Most likely, it is the first open after turn off the car. Like:
1 open garage door, 2 park into garage 3 turn off the car 4 open the tailgate. At this point, if the tailgate has not been open for a while like for a day, it would open higher than normal. As a result, it would hit the garage door.

I think this is an annoying issue, at least here in Canada. My garage door and height is pretty common.

I just created a short 2 mins video how to limit electric tailgate height.
Hope this helps everyone to avoid smashing ceiling.
This works for many Mercedes models with electric tailgate.

Nice. I didn't know about the "clearing" function.

I set my preferred height by just manually forcing the tailgate to the position I want, then long press the button. I don't have to quickly interrupt its action to set the height, and can be more precise,

Looks like you dont really need to clear the memory (2 beep) and still able to set and save custom height then?

I have a few times that the tailgate open to the max height even though I have set and save my height. And one time the tailgate not open all the way to the set height and I hit my head on it. I need to reset the height again. Any idea what is wrong? Does it have anything to do with the car battery or 12v battery?

I know this an older thread but has anyone found a solution to this. The tailgate seems to have only 2 positions half way or all the way. Neither is satisfactory.

Once you have the tailgate positioned where you want it, press/hold the open/close button until it beeps, and that will be the position it opens to, until you reset it.

To position it where you want it, you can either momentarily press that button until it "lands" in the correct position, which is unlikely because of overshoot.
Or just muscle it into position and then press/hold until the beep.
It's easier to find the perfect spot with the Muscle technique.

I tried the muscle technique and every other technique described here and on the internet. Tried clearing the set point reprograming it. The tail gate stubbornly opens to the wrong set point, either half way or all the way open. There must be something wrong my car.
