Should I opt for leather seat from MB Tex for 2020 glc

Hi MBwrold members,

I need some opinions on mb tex vs leather seat. I did some research and looks like the stiches ripped of issue is common on mb tex. I saw most of the discussion was 4 years ago. Is the material the same in 2020 glc model? Anyone has any experiences to comment on this?

I did not see much issue on the leather seat. Is that worth the upgrade to leather instead of the mb tex? That may impact me given that it costs extra and most of the dealers locally here mostly have the mb tex in their lot...

It depends on many factors. TO me, MB Tex is good enough, easier to clean and they age not as fast as real leather seats. I'd put that money into other options such as radar cruise control and other safety features or even AMG packages instead.

It depends on which leather you choose. The regular leather seats on my 2017 GLC 300 are a bit too stiff (esp compared to the wonderful leather seats on my previous GLK). I do not feel there is any difference in comfort between the regular leather seats and MB Tex. In contrast, nappa leather (which I will get on my next lease) is much more comfortable.

I have MB-Tex and like it. 25k miles and no complaints. It's rugged stuff. Easy to clean.

I've had seven MBs with MB-Tex, and picked it again for number eight, due in December. Leather is actually a painted surface, that tends to wear and crack. MB-Tex color goes all the way through, it stays supple, and many people mistake it for leather.

my 2 c:
Used to have two cars with MB-Tex. Bought from dealers lot, so did not have choice. Recently switched to custom orders and Leather is a must have for my cars.
Even though they look the same, they don’t feel the same. Leather seat is more comfortable and holds me better than the synthetic seat which is slippery. ....as well as too cold in the winter and burning hot in the summer....
To me, leather is well worth the money.

We have the MB Tex since our 2020 GLC was off the lot, and while it doesn’t feel like leather, it’s anything but slippery. Very grippy. Maybe they changed the material or someone put some slippery treatment on yours.

No treatment applied as these were brand new cars off the dealers lot...

Observations may be due to the different reference points.
Thus the question: how manny MB cars with leather seats have you owned/or driven from more than 100 miles?

Stupid question. It is not a relative thing. The seats in my 2020 are grippy, not slippery. Either you slip or you don’t.

Dealer might have put something on your seats as one of their silly protection packages.

2017 GLC has a small tear starting on the side of the driver's seat. I've gotten quotes that it's around $250 to fix/replace which isn't that bad. As someone mentioned, I'd use that money somewhere else....

2018 GLC 43 & 2014 SLK 350, gone 2016 E63 Wagon
Obviously the seat material you like is a personal choice. My 2011 GLK had MB Tex and in the 4 years that I had the vehicle there were never any problems - comfortable and easy to keep clean. My 2016 E63S wagon had Nappa leather and there is a considerable difference between that leather and MB Tex. The seats were extremely comfortable and were easy to maintain. My 2018 GLC43 has nappa leather as well - this was my preference based on my E63 experience. As in the E63, the seats in my GLC have great comfort and are easy to maintain (I have the platinum white/black leather) I have driven service vehicles with MB Tex and while they are comfortable I still prefer the nappa leather. I have no experience to offer regarding the regular leather seats.

How can you tell if MB-Tex? I'm Looking at a used GLC at a Subaru dealer not local to me. Dealer doesn't have the window sticker or build sheet. Is there a sticker or a tag on MB-Tex I can have them look for? Thanks.

A photo would probably be sufficient!

I would try Mercedes VIN decoder. Should tell all about the car. Assuming you have the VIN?

I've had nappa leather in my prior S500 and M3. Not a fan of leather at all. Would choose cloth if the option was available but still prefer MBTex over leather as it seems to age better from what I've read.

I'll be honest though, I didn't spend much time maintaining the leather.

Speaking of that, what do you clean yours with and do you use a protectant on it afterwards

Thanks

I use a damp cloth to wipe it down whenever I wash the car.

I've use before but it's not specific and does not show or list any actual options. Not even the the exact exterior color nor the MSRP.

This is leather--the tell tale is the stitching pattern down the center. There are more "sections" than MB-tex.
