Correct, you just need to download the maps while you have data.

It should be enough for you temporarily, better than juggling a phone around to get nav.

yup i just took a deliver of my car and the next day I confirmed with my sale rep that it's not possible to add the Navigation. they seriously needs to upgrade the software for carplay to take advantage of that nice screen.

Prior to this car I had the 2018 Camry XSE V6 and carplay was not an option for that model until 2019. So a year later, Toyota rolled out the software update which took advantage of that 8" screen. MB probably needs another year or two. common!!!

Some dealer apparently did it according to this thread. Getting slightly confused. :|

Does Android Auto "take advantage of that nice screen"? Thanks

Nope, or at least not the full width. Still works fine though, I can't say I'm particularly fussed.

I regularly update my maps on my 2020 GLC300, downloading the files on an SD card using my MercedesMe app. Then transfer the map files to the GLC using an SD card reader plugged into a USB2 to USB3 cable. That plugs into the USB3 slot into the car. Updates from there are automatic. The car did come with the navigation feature. You get three years of free updates, then there's a subscription fee. I have found the maps are very useful. It includes location icons of gas stations with their "current" gas price.

Well, I _am_ fussed by the wasted screen space, almost half of it.

If Chevy Suburban can have it, why can't AMG MB do it? Just took an Uber drive in a Suburban where both Google Maps and Waze maps occupied the entire screen area...

You have two options basically here

1) Change the head unit and upgrade it to a android based head unit that includes navigation and other goodies. I saw some threads done over in the ML, and the user did is: @we47b1me . I dont know if the place he got his head unit will have one available for the 2020 GLC model.

2)Look for a model that has the navigation.

It seems like it is no longer an issue for MBUX 2.0 (so for both W223 and W206)

As for the MBUX 1.0 that the GLC facelift equips, some say the decision might be because if full screen the steering wheel blocks part of it. I honestly don't know...

Does not sound correct.
Ask for a print out of data build state - this will list all aspects of what you have in your GLC at build, what date made, AND statement of free maps, usually 3 years.
Any Dealer can print out the data build state.
Good luck.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse, but here in the US, the navigation is supposed to be an add-on available through their MBUX Store once the app launches. I've reached out to MB multiple times to ask when this will release, and I always get the answer of "should be a month or so"... this is for the past year+.

If you login to MercedesMe and look at the enabled features of your car, you'll likely see the navigation option there with a "Buy" link... clicking this link results in a message that says the MBUX Store is not available, so just about everything is in place for this to be an orderable feature from MB, but they just haven't finished it yet here in the US.

Feel free to reach out to MB like I have been to voice your desire for them to launch the store so we can buy add-ons for our MBUX system like other countries can!

top left, tap on the hamburger/pancake stack menu… tap on your vehicle. Then click on manage services and you’ll see a list including navigation with a link to “Buy” and it just says “app is not yet available”…. Hurry up Mercedes!

You would think they would hurry up on this because it can actually generate revenue.

2020 GLC300 touring version (but I miss my '93 300SE W140 tank)
My dealer also said “not possible” to install navigation post build without Premium Sound package. Evidently the “head” (center video) unit is different. I would also wonder where the GPS antenna is. He also said wire harness was different. I am prone to believe him. Too bad, IMHO, the M-B nav is superior to Apple and Android maps.

he probably is not privy to how it actually built most dealers sales guys know very little about the cars and how they are built and what can be retrofitted. While it's true certain features require others most time it has to do with headunit or module requirements. If you tell me your build I can tell you for sure. Generally if you update headunit you can do lot things they say you can't. they claim augmented reality is not retrofitable and it's utter lie and bs . you can do it with headunit switch and the camera I have the WIS pdf which is what the use at factory dealership etc. The reason they say things is im assuming they don't want people asking for things like with things so tight they have adopted policy saying things are not possible when they are possible if they wanted to really please the customerd but it cost them to much time with not much $ gained. So don't always believe the sales people. I'm not saying I know better but usually I've found most things can be done. Talk to experts of your model etc. Do you want the mbux navi is the deal? If your model had a headunit that cost more and is compatible with it your model you can install new headunit with better one capability if compatible but in terns cost he's prob right you better off getting a new car( during normal times) but right now that's a whole damn job too so . I been waiting forever for 2022 over 8 months and not getting what I want completely still! it's just how things are and it sucks worst time buy car right now. I just wanted fully loaded magno grey CLA 35 ended up with " lite" this and that the mbux 548 thing drives me nuts I'll be getting them to put 549 when the 548 starts to fail
