In Sep 2019 I decided to replace the original 235/60R18 Pirelli Scorpion Verde run flats due to tread wear at 19k miles. Bought a 07-11 ML-CLASS 18" Compact Donut Spare on eBay, and it just fits in the spare compartment. Also carry a surplus jack & short 5 Wheel Lug Bolts (M14x1.5x26mm), since the OEM bolts are too long for the spare.
I now have put 6k on a new set of 235/60/R18 Yokohama Avid Ascend LX. After driving them for 8 months I can confirm that the ride & handling is way better than the OEM Pirellis. Also very low noise compared to the worn Pirellis.
I appreciate all the helpful posts above. My original 235/60R18 Pirelli Scorpion Verde run flats are also in need of being replaced at 19K miles and I plan to switch to non-run flats. Since I’m also due for Service B I was planning on having my tires replaced at the same time, but my dealership is only offering non-run flats in Goodyear Eagle Sport, Continental 4x4 Contact, and a Hankook model I didn’t catch. The Goodyear and Continental models seem to have mixed reviews. After having a bad experience at Costco with a tire sensor being damaged I’d prefer to have my tires replaced at the dealership.
My dealership mentioned being able to check to see if they can order different models from Tire Rack. I’m curious if anyone has done this at their Mercedes dealership? Thanks in advance.
we recently replaced the orig run flats on our 2019 X253 to Mich Defender LTX M/S 245/60/18 from costco, (have the tech put 35 PSI cold all around) yes we did a step wider, the tyres cleared with no rubbing on both sides. we have about 500 miles, so far so good, starting to shave good. rides smooth, straight and quiet. with a UTQG of 720AA she sticks pretty good. Also have the alignment done even though i think she does not need it, just a habit everytyme we install new set of tyres in any of our vehicles. hope this helps
Incase this can help others, I ordered the non-run flat Pirelli Scorpion Verde Plus tires I wanted (on sale at Tire Rack for $139 vs. $197), and my dealership balanced and mounted them for $138. I had it done at the same time as my Service B and inspection so it was nice to knock everything out at once. I immediately noticed an improvement in the ride. Thanks again for the posts above.
Love them too, used them on ML three times, very reliable and comfortable.
Unfortunately Costco stopped installing not their tires. So this time thinking to go with something what Costco has.
Sounds like the Scorpion non-RFT is a way different tire than the RF version. That really is amazing.
I'm in the Costco camp like you DanD, right now i'm thinking Michelin, just not sure which ones of course. Was thinking Latitude but Premier seems pretty good too, and and CrossClimate is rated #1 at tire rack - but not a lot of miles of reveiws on them.
I will soon need to replace the tires on my 2018 GLC 4matic with 18 inch wheels. I would like to install non Run Flat tires but I’m not finding many choices out there. Does anyone have any experience with non RF 235/60-18 tires. I would like to match or exceeded the OEM Pirelli tire handling and improve the ride comfort.
I finally replaced the RF OEM Pirelli tires after 23000 miles. (I don’t understand how people wear out these tires in just 12000 to 15000 miles. I replaced them with 18 inch non RF Goodyear Comfortred touring tires. So far I’m happy with the tires. The prolonged vibration after going over expansion strips on the highway is now gone and the ride is noticeable smoother and quieter. Also the tires have a 80000 mile warrantee.

great rmlasalle! Many more happy miles to your glc.

Have other GLC300 owners gone to 245/60 sizes with their replacement tires? I’m about ready to replace my original tires and need to know if there’s any benefit or problems with going to the wider sizes. My wheels are 18” and I want to stay that size due to bad road conditions around here in wintertime. I realize the runflat version does not come in 245 so I will be adding a spare.

I think a lot has to do with the conditions you drive in. Crossclimate would be great for a year round tire in Connecticut. If you drive in only rain and dry roads above freezing, the best tire would be the Pilot Sport 4 SUV. It's an improvement over the Latitude in every way.

Usually, a half-size over stock, a 235/65-18 in this case, gives the best result.
I'm not against wider tires, but 235 is plenty. Let me punch the calculator....
Well, the numbers pan out for 235/65, it's about 3% taller, which isn't excessive. It would give much better ride, while preserving steering feel, improving gear ratios, possibly improving mpg and keeping suspension + wheel damage to a minimum. Plus 65s should open the door to some LT model tires, which are much more durable than these passenger car tires we've talked about. Let's take a look....
Nothing else jumps out at me in 245 size. Stock size is probably fine, it's a beefy tire.
235/60-18
Knowing what I know, I would get the Nokain 2.0 for a passenger tire, but Altimax is also one of my first choices, was great on my Q5, great in snow and good wear... Continental owns General https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

Thanks Daniel6L
I don't think the Pilot Sport will work as i do want be prepared for the snow just in case
Do you know if the ride on the Cross Climate Same/worse/better than the Latitude? I have driven Latitude on a QX60 235/65/18 and found it to be a nice ride (no idea on how it handles snow though)
2020 GLCs from what I was seeing in the GLC calipers thread come stock with conti cross contact sport. PS4S as grippy as they are, are not exactly the floatiest ride around town. I found it really harsh on my m2 in the city.

I ended up getting Pirelli P7 Plus. Convincing reviews and a solid test result against some of the very top tier GT tires. They are on closeout with a new version coming, check EBay. Mine were $94 vs $139 at TireRack....
I got fed up with noisy, short lifespan Runflats and went to non runflat Michelin Pilot Sports. What a difference. Better traction, quiet. and hopefully will get over 40k miles out of them.

I absolutely dread runflats because of my experience with a set. Never will buy them again

Thanks for the feedback, definitely thinking snow ready just in case. Any ideas on the differences between CrossClimate vs CrossClimate 2?

Likely to be just a compound change. It seems like all big mfg are at this point in their model cycle. Maybe there's supply issues for certain rubber compounds, and mfg are doing a work-around.

It is a midcycle refresh with slightly different compound and tread
