Built in dashcam function on 2020 GLC?

I did try that (that was my primary use case.... I park at a train station/park and ride quite a bit). Did the 'old hip check of a door and bounced the car a bit. I got the MB Me app notification but the dashcam didn't do squat. I also put the dog inside (thus setting off the interior alarm) and still didn't activate the dashcam. Annoyed my dog though. :-)

It's in this thread above, here is his website.
https://www.rjautomotive.net/
I emailed with him in January, he said he does not have dash cam ready. Words to the effect otherwise in this thread are not correct. He forecasted this month, February. I myself also await that. I figured I'd follow up with him in a few weeks.

DashCam on 2021 GLA-250
The dash cam feature is included and operational on the 2021 GLA-250 that I purchased in May 2021.
It works great with one minor hitch: occasionally, maybe once in every 20 trips, it displays a text box that says "Function Unavailable".
No idea what causes this; I think it's something to do with a conflict between MBUX and Apple Car Play.
It always works the next time I start the car, so at this point it's just an unknown.
Interestingly enough, the dealer had no idea that this feature was included with the car.
I discovered it after watching a video on the internet.
Only needed to buy a thumb drive, there is no monthly fee.
One caveat: you have to manually start the dash cam every time; it's not automatic.

So after over a year, @rjautomotive hasn't had any luck enabling this for MY2020? Very disappointing. Not sure why MB made this so hard to do, compared to all the other coding features he (and some others) have been able to remotely "unlock".
Dang.

@Eaton is that confirmed? Do you have any links to how this "Store" will work? I admit, I haven't been following that at all.
Thanks!
Thanks!
The store will be live in 2 places:
- The website (redirects to a country selection page right now): https://shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-us
- A Store section in the MBUX menus, like Navigation, Settings, Phone, etc.
You will also be able to purchase new services:
- Dashcam
- MBUX Navigation
- AMG Track Pace

Yes, it is confirmed to launch late 2021 last I heard. Could be delayed, but I believe that's the target.

Interesting (it may have been mentioned elsewhere), that camera's resolution is only 720p and 30Hz. That's pretty low for a true dashcam these days, though I understand they're just enabling an existing, onboard camera to pull double-duty.
Also not in love with the fact that you have to switch it on every time you get in the car (if I'm reading it right).

This is legit info, thanks! Out of curiosity I called the Mercedes Me hotline and asked about this. The nice lady confirmed that they're all anxiously awaiting the release of the store in the USA as well, but have no firm release date yet (but she did think it was going to be this year). She didn't, unfortunately, have info on the dashcam activation so she couldn't confirm it.
Dashcam activation is still a bit of a murky topic. What I know is that it will be purchasable in the US store. If not at launch, then shortly after launch.
At the very least your car will need to have these:
- 549 - MBUX High-end headunit
- U19 - Augmented Video for Navigation
- MBUX fresh-update 3 (apilevel/ntg6/080 or later) - can be obtained OTA, or through dealer
- In the Mercedes me Connect app on your phone, use the top-left menu and tap on your car to go to the "Garage" section of the app.
- Tap "Manage Services".
- Go to "Safety and Service".
- You will see "Dashcam" with a "Buy" button that doesn't work yet.
- If you do not see it, it's possible getting your car's MBUX software updated by the dealer may make it appear.

In most regions, including the US, you have to manually start it before driving off. What's odd is that an option exists to have it automatically start recording, but it's only available in Denmark right now.

Doesn't show-up in my "connect" app (disabled or otherwise). Not sure I want to take the car in for service for an MBUX update...I thought they came OTA? (Mine says up-to-date.)
Well, as soon as anyone reports any luck enabling it, I guess I'll do whatever I have to!

I don't see it in mine either. I do see the "buy" button for Navigation which my GLC doesn't have yet. The button is enabled but when you tap it, is says the app is not available in the store yet. I really hope it will be. I just assumed my car had navigation already because the buttons and menu options are there. I didn't even think to try it out during the test drive. I would love purchase both the dashcam and navigation options.

Why I wouldn't buy the dash cam for my 2020 GLC43, even if Mercedes offered it:
1. You have to turn it on every time you start the car. Seriously.
2. Video is only 720p. People are saying you can't even read license plates in the daytime.
3. No sound.
4. No GPS info.
5. No crash-detection while parked.
6. No rear camera recording.
7. No inside-the-car camera.
8. Reported issues with USB memory sticks and playing back videos (could be user error who knows, but I stopped considering the Mercedes dash cam after item #1 anyway).
You can get a FAR more capable dash cam on your own, and probably spend less than whatever Mercedes is charging. I know it's tempting to buy the one already built into the car, but from the looks of it, it's a piece of junk.
That's my two cents, for what it's worth.

I have my trusty viofo a129 pro with rear camera and all is good, just sucks to have the MB dashcam and not be able to use it. Since you laid out some very good reasons not to purchase, i am inclined to steer clear. Cheers
