Ya theyve switched up the packaging for 2020 further from when I got my 2019.

I opted to not go with the Premium Plus Package. At that time it came with the 360 cam, garage opener, ambient lighting and lit door sills only from what i recall. Thats basically it - and although i wouldve liked to get the 360 Cam - it wasnt worth it to me for the money.

With that said - I did get the auto park and all of the proximity other sensors (not the intelligent drive pack), foot tailgate and the intelligent head lights was also a separate adder.

TBH - ive never used the auto park feature outside of the day i picked her up and the salesman showed me how to use it and the foot gate has worked maybe 5 times in 2 years. I kindve like pushing the tilting logo on the coupe to open the trunk.

Perhaps the foot activated tailgate release relies on the rear ulltrasonic sensors that come with the parking package.

This is a pretty straight forward description of how to use the feature on our cars:

It may be a straightforward description but it's a pity it doesn't operate as described!

I completely agree... Im going to try giving mine a kick when i leave work in a few to see if she will work. I gave up trying many moons ago because I never got it to work. But that video gives me a bit more direction on distance to stand and area to kick at.

***UPDATE***

Ive never actually seen that video tutorial prior to today - and id basically given up on the feature because it was terribly sporadic trying to get it to work.

But im not going to lie when I say I went out - followed the directions in the tutorial to a 'T'

- 30cm away - kicking motion towards the bumper without touching it - car off - (I also have the factory trailer hitch and my car hasnt been washed in 2 weeks)...

And sure as sh][t...

10 tries
x
10 times that hatch opened without fault

I dont know what to tell you guys - but It works flawlessly for me now that ive been taught how to use it...

That’s great to hear you figured out how to open your liftgate EVERY time! And from what I’ve read on this forum, originally a hitch did interfere with the hands free liftgate. But I think MB figured out a work around. In fact it might be having two sensors instead of one based on what that video showed. My wife’s BMW X3 is pretty sporadic when I try to open it, so maybe I should look for a video for that based on your success.

Anyway, FWIT, and to offer a variation of technique, I ALWAYS walk up to my liftgate and simply swipe my right foot from right to left and it’s gonna open 99 times out of 100. And sometimes I’m pretty sloppy with how I swipe my foot....I think subconsciously I’m trying to see the limits of what it will accept. Based on the video you posted, it makes sense that a swipe works because it shows sort of a band of area BETWEEN two sensors. I thought there was only one sensor more or less at the bottom center under the bumper. As I mentioned above, maybe MB added two sensors as the hitch workaround.

I hope your update gives some other frustrated foot kickers/swipers some hope!

Its not a swiping motion left to right or right to left it is the kicking motion, most times which were rare that mine didn't work was because it didn't detect the key in my pocket and yes MB fit 2 sensors

Agree. It is a kicking motion. When I received the car the dealer told me it has to be a rapid kick not a slow motion. Mine has worked virtually every time with that technique.

Btw my 2018 quick start brochure lists the feature but apparently it's not a standard feature. So our car did not have it.

Hey there - i actually have the 2018 GLC full US Brochure - and you would be correct - if you did not spec the Advanced Parking Assist Package - you wouldnt get it. Also - you can see on the 2018's - you cant get this package if you have a trailer hitch. They mustve fixed that for 2019 as I have it.

I am another new owner (2020 GLC 63 AMG) who could only get it to work about 20% of the time until I saw that video, now it's flawless. I was trying to actually kick the underside of the rear of the car before, now that I know that all I have to do is move my foot through that invisible beam pattern it works every time. Thanks!
