Opening Trunk With Foot

Is the option to open the trunk with the swipe of a foot underneath a standard option? I see in my manual it says it is available, but I'm not able to get it to work. The car is unlocked and I've moved foot forward and back, and left to right without any success. I thought the option was standard, is it not?

You have to have keyless comfort option

Even if you do have it it's pretty difficult to get it to operate properly.

That must be it then. As far as I know, I don't have this option. What exactly does this option cover on the 2020's?

Looks like you might be missing that option. Too bad, it comes in handy.

Maybe your sensor is dirty? Not to rub it in, but just for reference, mine works flawlessly. I just have to swipe somewhere under the center of the bumper and it opens. My wife’s 2017 BMW X3 is another story. It is a royal PITA to get it to work. I wish it was just a dirty sensor on it, but it’s been that way ever since she got it new.

I feel bad for the OP and others who assume certain features are standard. I’m not sure about 2020’s, but even though the bumpers had what looked liked sensors on early GLC’s (2016-2018 at least), you didn’t get parking sensors unless you got the Self parking option which included the 360 degree cameras. I’m sure there were lots of disappointed new owners when their new GLC was delivered.

Its a pointless feature IMO. Its faster to use the button on the remote or the button on the door than to try to hit the sensor in the right spot. I know that is probably because I don't know where exactly to wave my foot but still...I rather open the truck as i'm walking up to my car so I don't have to wait.

I've used mine countless times and will continue to. Hands full, keys in pocket, just wave my foot under the trunk and open. Don't need to put the bags on the ground while I fumble with keys. I think it's a great feature.

Faster “to use the button” implies your remote is in your hand. Mine is in my pocket and my wife’s is in her purse. Using “the button on the door” doesn’t account for when it’s really dirty or raining and wet. May be pointless to some, but for those of us who have come to love it, it’s the best feature I never knew I really needed.

And just to add, I could care less about having HUD, which I don’t have, but I’ve read that people who do just love it. Just because I don’t have a need for it doesn’t make it “pointless”. Just saying, pointless is kind of a strong word.

Does anyone know what other features come with this "keyless comfort option"? I don't recall this being a part of any of the packages for my '20.

This is not necessarily true. I have a Canadian 2019 GLC300 Coupe and i have both the auto park feature and foot sensor - but i do not have the 360 camera. The packages may have been bundled different for Canada however.

A note for the foot sensor - I read and found myself that if you have a tow hitch (i had it added on my build) it impedes the sensor even more. Ive only gotten it to work a handful of times in the 2 years ive had the car.

I have the Keyless Go Comfort package since I'm assuming that is a part of the keyless locking and unlocking of the vehicle when touching handle, correct? I don't have a tow hitch and my car is only about a month old, so I don't think the sensor could be that dirt this quick. Maybe I am just not doing correctly. I've tried about 10 times and never got it to work. I have an email into the dealer to see if he can confirm that this feature is a part of the build of my '20 GLC.

Good point! And MB seems to change year to year how they bundle things. I had to pay a lot more to get the Intelligent Headlight System on my ‘18 GLC because of the way it was packaged. Looks like you can get it now as an $800 package in the US. And different markets (Canadian, European) make it even more confusing. It’s definitely on the buyer to be sure of what he’s getting.

Different package for Hands Free Access

The MB online build shows Hands Free Access as part of a different package than the Keyless Go. But others have noted on here that building your GLC at your dealer offers some different options that don’t show up in the online build. I don’t even see a Keyless Comfort Package online , but I just took a quick look. I’m pretty sure if you have your “Sticker”, it should be clear if you have Hands Free Access. That and Keyless Go are two different things.

Contacting your dealer is the correct way to go. No one on here can tell you how your car is equipped.

Thanks for sending that. I think that clears it up. As I said above, I definitely have the Keyless-Go option, but do NOT have the Parking Assistance Package. That would explain it. Now I feel like an idiot waving my foot like I was crazy for 2 min. trying to get the thing to activate!

As Vaboy pointed out, on the US 2020s it's bundled with the Parking Assistance package. Wife loves the 360 camera and the Hands Free Access was just a perk. It definitely is convenient when the hands are full but strangely the wife has trouble activating it when I don't.

I'm happy that you guys are getting use out of the hands-free truck open . I was really excited about it before getting my GLC but in practice I can't find a helpful use case for me. I guess I should have said its pointless to me, but I did kind of say that when I said In My Opinion...so I stand by my opinion in that the feature is useless.

Agreed, but I’ve got to say.....it’s pretty crappy of MB to have the Hands Free option bundled with the Parking package. It really belongs with the Keyless Go feature and has NOTHING to do with parking. Like I said, maybe the dealer can add Hands Free outside of the Parking package. But I’ve gathered that’s what MB does to force you to pay for stuff you may not care about to get something you really want. But what are you gonna do?? Lol

Agreed. I was really hoping this feature was a part of my Keyless-Go option, but sadly learned today it is not.

Welcome to the world of Mercedes. It's a luxury product as long as you add 15-20K of options.

In Canada it is bundled differently... And there is no description of 'Hands-Free'. It is clearly called 'Foot activated tailgate release' - which would help clarify the confusion.

We only get two Pack's and then the 1 option for full Intelligent Driver Package:

Wow! That’s something Brandon! They really got you the way that’s packaged. And they even throw the “Integrated Garage Door Opener” In there. Lol
