What oil to use?

Your mom needs to educate you better.
A certified mechanic is a very broad term. What if this is their first experience with euro cars?
He already said in OP, and I quote:
"I am not sure about substituting 0w40 for the recommended 5w40"
He did some research before posting and his only question to this ****ty community was:
"So please sound off with you feedback on what oils you are using."
He didn't ask your opinion on his certification. You are just being obnoxious. You had nothing to add to this thread.

what oils do I use ? The one the dealer puts into my vehicle, or the one I buy from the dealer based on their recommendation if I feel the need to do it on my own - happy ?

Still, I would still suggest what your dealer does is best until somebody experiments and comes up with a conclusive answer.

Head on over here for some oil discussion, it will probably answer most of your questions, and probably make it so you will have more.

Xbowguy posted this:
"It's been mentioned on here that Dealerships stock only one bulk oil... 5-40 to satisfied the blueTec models... so... they use and recommend the 5-40 in ALL MB engines... from what I can gather from Mobile 1. Their 0-40w European formula meets and or exceeds MB 229.5 recommendations . I'm no chemists . but I've had no issues using the 0-40 w Mobile 1 the past serval years.."
Not sure if it is helpful, but there is another thread about this.
