Speaking of those chrome strip. Dealer says there are no separate chrome strip, The entire cover needs to replace with a new piece with chrome pre-installed. Something like below. It costs $100.63 CAD per side. Just ridiculous. I will go aftermarket route.

I am sure that OEM chrome strip is not unique to GLE and GLS. GLC43 has it too. It might be wider on the GLE and GLS but not sure.. if the car has black package, it is blackout instead of chrome.
I would recommend having it professionally installed if you want it that bad.
yeah, totally decided on leaving out the whole idea. Not worth the hassle until someone else does it and give us clear guidance. That's why I originally posted here. Shame though as I really wanted the illuminated star. Now I guess I'm out of mods for a year or more. 😆😁🤣

From posting on these forums for almost 4 years, it is a very popular feature that everyone wants, but the thing people have to realize if they really want the feature, they need to ask for it upfront.
Additionally, from seeing the newer bodies that MBZ is putting out, it might be something that might be VERY difficult to do, in terms of a retrofit.
I wanted the illuminated star also, but did not have the glossy one. I think you have the camera behind the star also.
if u don't have the glossy one I think it is much easier for u. Search online and u will find tons of videos on how to DIY. even Aliexpress have tons of items that suits u. Mine doesn't have a camera but maybe a sensor for beake assist. Dealer said it works but still waiting on confirmation cost to install. Item alone is 800$ to be ordered from Germany.
I'm never a big fan of dechroming. We pay for these chrome and on my black GLC it looks amazing and eye catching. Very elegant, unless it is an AMG or a sports car.
