OTA map updates on 2019 GLC

Our 2019 GLC300 went through a few minutes of Command display going off, then on, then on with a green hue, then on/off a couple more times.
Was it doing an update?
Everything seems fine now, and the map seems to have a little different look.

Drilling down, Command says
Currently Installed:
2018/2019 (V12.0) N.AMERICA
Satellite View of Earth: NASA Visible Earth
Please consult your Mercedes-Benz Dealer
regarding the availability of new map data
I never checked this screen before (Wife's car) so I don't know if it's new.
Does a 2019 even do OTA updates?

Does the on-off-green seem like a glitch, or is that the new normal?

My thought is it's a glitch. From what I gather, 2020 MY was the first to do map OTA updates.

That's what I thought.

Another possibility is that there was communication going on with the new Mercedes Me app. I'm not sure when Mercedes Me began doing diagnostics that could be used by Dealer Service Departments, either.

Right, for the GLC OTA updates started with MY2020 with the switch to MBUX. Other models such as the C and E started with MY2019 and the latest COMAND system. Either way, the updates happen seamless in the background and when they are done a prompt appears letting one know that the system has been updated. Nothing like you describe happens when an update is being performed. I've received several OTA map updates in my 2019 C63 so far.
