I just go to Jiffy Lube. I wait for a coupon and I use fully synthetic. I've had no problems or issues using them and they are cheaper than the dealer.

Kris, I have had several Mercedes, and have 2 currently. Have always done my own maintenance, but own a large garage with a lift. Mercedes are very easy to work on in comparision to other brands and designed for maintenance. The oil change is very easy. Walmart has the best price on 0W40 Mobile 1 European formula at about 26 dollars for 5 qts. which meets the MB spec for a 2017 GLC. I buy MB filters online from FCP euro or ECS. Cheap, easy, and done right. Good luck!

FYI -I am an enthusiast and have owned many different cars frequenting forums for info. I have seen many horror stories with incorrect oil changes and having to warranty motors with Jiffy lube. I would never bring a Mercedes there. Corvette forum had several blown motors from incorrect oil changes at Jiffy lube.

I believe in Canada there is show called mechanic under cover, they take cars for services with hidden cameras.
One episode was about 10mins oil change places, please see it on youtube, very informative.

I like to do maintenance myself, my preference Germans brands Liqui Moly or Motul from Napa or Amazon. Other parts usually buy from

I don't want to come on as an expert, but here goes my 2 cents, I presently own a seized engine OM642 diesel that I religiously changed the oil at 3K miles after the first owner did them at 10K miles as per MB recommendations at the dealer, well, you can see how well that turned out, so I purchased a GL550 with V8 Biturbo just under 50K miles, don't know what oil was being used but the car went for 5K miles without a pur from under the hood, I went to my Indy to change the oil and he suggested not to use anything but mobil one since its whats on the sticker under the hood said, so around 2K miles into the cycle I start to smell oil when the car had been runned hard or had been towing on a hot day, or idling for a long time in stop and go traffic, and also started ticking on the top side like valve lifter tick, my mechanic changed the rubber plug behind the valve cover and it got better, but ticking got louder with every 100 miles, all pointed to fuel pump, until I finally got ahold of the last owner and he told me to run from mobil one oil, that he had that same experience from new with Mobil 1. At this point I don't know what to think, but already losing an engine under Mobil 1 watch I said screw MB and changed the oil with Royal Purple. I now wander if there is any long term damage this oil could have done to my engine, the engine is running at least 20 degrees cooler, its doing a good 3 to 7 MPG more in the city, it is doing almost 20 MPG on the highway babied, and the engine sounds like a sewing machine. no more ticking, and no more burning oil smell, I want to add the car now has 70K miles and it will never see Mobil 1 again as long as I own it, the next change will be with Liqui Moly, just to keep in the german mood of things, I used royal purple this time because I had a couple cases laying around from my High performance boat that I sold, you make up your own conclusions, and if I saved somebodies engine with this, I feel it was worth the time spent writing, again, this could have been from a too hot setting thermostat, or who knows what could have been the issue, but I do know that with this oil the engine is running as it should, also want to point out my mechanic and the dealer both said that the ticking was the high pressure fuel pump on the direct injection, so I guess there was an extra fuel pump in one of those quarts of oil. LOL!

At this point I am down one vehicle with a seized engine on Mobil 1 oil, and I am trusting my sense of smell, sight, and hearing, ditching Mobil 1 poured into the engine in my presence halfway into its life cycle smelling like burnt old oil when engine heated up to operating temperature under extreme conditions just turns me off, add to that that engine now sounds great, no more so called fuel pump ticking, has no odors, and the vehicle is getting better mileage, that being said, its trusting the idiot gauge that slides back and forth and the dash monitor, it looks like a gimmick to me, and mileage is not a priority to me, lets drop that one, but engine temp being lower is definitely a sign of oil breakdown, dont know if I got a bad batch of oil from walmart or what, but in my car, its not going back in, since writing the original post I recieved a couple of bottles of Liqui Moly Ceratec that I will be adding to the oil that is already performing well, I have to take a trip up north next month and want to have all bases covered, they say this can hurt, to me, its just high quality snake oil, but a lot of people swear by it, they cant all be wrong. so in a nutshell, I happen to somewhat agree that brand means nothing, but quality control does, and in my book, one seized engine is more than I want to deal with, ad my ears and nose don't lie. plus the oil looked really tarnished and smelled really burnt when I changed it out, and that did not happen with the oil previously in the car when I bought it, the car was serviced by the Indiana Mercedes dealer all its life up to 40K, and previous owner told me that this had happened to him in the summertime in Indiana, so I will be following my instincts when it comes to Mobil 1, and that being said, the diesel clatter did not allow me to differentiate noise levels or ticking in the engine while on Mobil 1 on the GL350, so I am not blaming the oil, I blame the dealer stupidity and the prior owners further stupidity in allowing a diesel to go for 10K miles between oil changes. I hope this is just a paranoid feeling I have for the sake of the rest of the world out there on Mobil 1, but just dont think its worth the risk after what I just experienced and am seeing now with my own eyes, best of luck to you, and if its working for you, why fix what is not broken. I do want to point out I live in Florida and drive my car hard, plus I tow a 6500 pound RV at least once a month.

Wow - previous owner had severe overheating or some other really bad symptoms. Not a good sign.
FWIW (this is a GLC thread but here goes) I have put 180,000 miles on two ML350 diesels and always change oil at 10,000 miles. Dealer uses Mobil 1, although it wouldn't be my first choice. I also tow a 6,000# RV.
And BTW I found the "diesel clatter" to be quieter than gasoline "Direct Injection Clatter" so if you were experiencing excessive noise, you might have had the same problem the PO had. I don't think I would blame the oil or the dealer.
