Hi guys,

As a new owner of GLC Coupe I will need some help , I will open two separate threads as I don't want to ask too many unrelated questions into one. Sorry for that one.
Car came with the full Distronic system and no 360 Camera.

1)How do you actually use Distronic in stop&go/city traffic? Even some step by step guide would be nice

My questions are :

1) What distance should I set to vehicle in front? Minimal? I have 4 stages.
2) When would my car stop,at what distance and how hard would it apply the brake? Would I hear the beeping sound for collision prevention always when it stops like that?
3) Would my car stop on it's own? Would it follow the Active Brake Assist system?
4) What are those levels in the Active Brake assist - early, medium,late ?

Tried it out yesterday on red traffic light. Car in front of me stopped and the Coupe applied a really hard brake and a beep sound.
I expected that it would come closer to the car in front and stop gently without beeping and alarming sounds.
Maybe I am doing something wrong? Just don't really want to try again before I learn the basics.




2)Distance settings:

I don't get what each of those markings represent? I couldn't find it in manual, I can't find in MBUX what each step represents? How much meters/ feet is each one? I have 4 in total.






3)And Active Lane Change Assist:

Where is that located? My car came with the Distronic full system , which I believe should have the Active Lane change assist.
However I cannot seem to find it in the assistance menu. I have to mention I don't have the 360 Camera, but I believe that's not a prerequisite for the Active Change Lane Assist ?

Hi, gichka, I'll try to answer your questions.
1) I use the single car length setting on Distronic in stop and go traffic and in city driving. I use 3 and 4 setting while driving at speed on the highways.
2) The car will slow down in moving traffic. If you come upon a stopped car, your car stops very quickly at the last moment. It's a safe stop but gets getting used to. I kept my foot neat the brake for the first couple of month driving.
3) It will stop on it's own, but I believe you'll have to be traveling less than 60mph or so. ! don't rely on the feature when driving more than about 45mph.
4) I would always use "early" until you get used to the braking sensation.

Your experience must have been when you were driving at a high speed (above 45mph or so). The Collision warning shouldn't come on when driving at a moderate speed.

The distance settings are car lengths.

Active lane change assist is explained on page 209 of my users manual. To use the feature, you just tap the turn signal lever a bit in the direction you wish the car to change lanes. If there's a slower car in front of you your car will speed up and steer over to the nest lane. If there's a vehicle in your blind spot, your car will not make the move,

To be honest, my market is different than US, but still functions should operate the same.
Also I haven't received any user manual which is something I am going to insist on this week, I thought it is in the glove box, but didn't find any.

1) Distance is now clear, would have never thought that this is cars distance. So 4 lengths is how much? Around 20 meters/65 feet? Isn't that too low for the highest range? Because I see more than 50 meters graph when I turn it on. Does it depend on highway vs city road? Can I find some more information somewhere ? : ) How did you find out it is car lengths?

2) For Active Lane Change - what concerns me is that I don't see it in the assistance menu and I was thinking that it might require the 360 camera, but it doesn't make any sense. I saw some GLC videos where you can turn it on/off in the MBUX. Like this one, I don't have only the Active Lane Change Assist in my menu:




3) For Distronic, yes I agree with you. I would mostly use on highway, I just wanted to give it a try in city, but probably just for a test of what I got. A few more questions in my head now:

- what does 'Early' refer to actually ? That it will stop smoother from a further distance or it will still stop at the last minute but won't hit the brakes so hard?
- it will keep 1 car distance( if set to so) , isn't that a bit too much of a gap for traffic lights? What if I want to go closer to the car in front, it will basically activate Distronic again once I hit gas pedal and should I stop it if I want to approach the car in front to let's say 2 meters distance or it will again apply the brake assist?
- hm, I think I was way below 45mph. So if it's going smoothly, I set to 1 distance car and early brake, I should stop at 4 meters to the front car, brake would be applied smoothly and I should not hear the beep sound for collision?

I am more worried for the cars that are behind me, as you say it stops suddenly at the last minute. I hope to get your further input on those questions.

The Disrtonic distance is a constant distance while vehicle in front is moving, When the car slows down your care will do the same. When the car stops your car will slowly approach the car and stop a few feet behind. When the car starts again your car will also start and resume the follow unless the car has stopped more than 30 seconds before resuming its movement. If that happens you will have to push the accelerator a bit to get it to resume following. The feature actually is great in stop and go traffic.
