I decided to check the Airmatic struts on my 2016 GLC 250d 4Matic for no reason today, and I noticed brown stains on the sides and towards the interior side of the strut, same thing for front left and front right struts.
The stains encircled in green are old, since I can remember, the blue encircled area is where I wiped everything to see if it happens again, and before wiping it looked like the red encircled part.
I am a little bit worried that the suspension is leaking, but I don’t understand why the stains are also on the upper metallic part and not exclusively under it? Also, do the air cushions also have oil inside?
A couple of months ago, the guy at the dealership said he also noticed the stains on the Airmatic struts, but now I don’t know if he referred to the green circled or red circled ones. He also said that they’ve had multiple GLC with such stains but no client ever complained about the air suspension.
